Not all people are gift people. I never want anything, and I am kind of unhappy when people get me things that I don’t want or need. It feels wasteful to me, and actually causes me to feel bad. I tell everyone I just want to spend time with them. I say, next time you’re in town, let’s grab dinner or whatever! But still people buy me things. And so then I buy them things, because clearly that’s what they want. I am great with the holidays, but I don’t need more stuff.
Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for people is actually listen to what they want. Maybe the kid doesn’t want anything.
