You need to visit and see if you like it. I found Austin to be completely underwhelming. I don't get the appeal.

Check out the way you will be taxed there.

They have had grid failure. The infrastructure in the state has not kept up with the growth.

It's hot and humid.

Not sure I would move to Texas for any reason right now OP, even Austin. If the real estate market collapses there it's going to take a while for it to come back.

I think Tarrytown is too close in to be like McLean, but it is a top neighborhood. The Austin Country Club area might be more like McLean given that it has bigger, expensive houses and farther away from downtown. And now that so much has been developed just north of there, it no longer feels so far out.

That said, I don't think you can get much of anything in either of those areas for 1 - 1.5mm.

What really matters is where is spouse who is getting this job working.

Some of you need to either take your meds, get a grip, or find a life, or probably all three.

There are millions more Dems in Texas than in either MD or VA. And they are surviving just fine and even, gasp, happily. OP will be fine.
