Definitely try this first. I used to have this reaction to a certain toothpaste. It cleared up as soon as I switched.

Id get this too and realized it was my toothpaste (Colgate total was the worst for me) My dentist said some toothpastes can cause it. Try switching for a few days to another brand than what you use and see if it helps.

If it is a bacterial infection OP needs an antibiotic ointment. Bactoban works for me. Neosporin does not work for the type of bacteria common in this and can trigger an allergic reaction.

Medicated Blistex helps painful cracks, but I think it's one of those items that can cause rebound problems.

I'd recommend trying O'Keefe's lip balm in the orange tube.

I have started nightly applying aquaphor on and around my lips even when this isn't happening. It's the only thing that works to prevent it . I do wonder if drooling during sleep was irritating my skin and the aquaphor prevents that

I get it in winter often due to retin-a, dry skin. It can be painful.

Aquaphor helps mine clear up quickly.

I have an old prescription a dentist once gave me for a fungal cream for it because it can be caused by a fungus…but mine is def not that and only sometimes happens in winter with retin-a/dry skin.
