My GYN suggested two things (1) topical estrogen and (2) practice, practice, practice. Meaning buy yourself some toys.

What are the signs for the rest of us?

She said the tissue deeper inside my vagina was pale, indicating less blood flow to the area, I guess. I also notice that my clitoris is smaller than it used to be, and less sensitive.

Honestly it sounds more like stress. You are still too young for an atrophy to haven.

I’m struggling with the same issue. It’s awful. I’ve been completely depressed. I hadn’t heard the term clitoral atrophy until about a year ago. I’m 55, on HRT for about a year. My ob/gyn told me that when we get older, blood flow throughout our body (at least for some of us) doesn’t work like it used to. I went to a sexual health specialist and he put me on a low dose of Cialis, yes, the ED pill. It addresses blood flow. It helped somewhat, but I was still far from “normal.”

I came across an ad for something called Ristela, which is supposed to help the blood flow/satisfaction issue. I checked with my doctor and he said give it a try for a couple of months. The manufacturer said it takes about 2 months to kick in. I’ve been taking it about a month and I just had a normal O with my husband for the first time in about 18 months to 2 years! Will it continue to work? I sure as hell hope so. I’m don’t work for big pharma or the supplement maker. I would definitely email your doc and make sure it isn’t contraindicated with any meds you are on. Good luck!

I know how important my orgasms are to my new partner and I don't want to start the relationship off with my own dysfunction getting in the way.

You aren't dysfunctional. He is. His last partners faked it for his ego, and he wants you to fake it too.

True for you. Not necessarily true for anyone else - certainly not for me.

Nor is it true for me, in my 80s.

I’ve found some improvement with T.

Question: do you need vaginal estrogen if you’re using an estrogen patch. Vaginal estrogen is the one thing my provider hasn’t brought up.

True for me. Big difference in sensitivity and being able to come. It happened within 3 months. It's fine. I had a good run.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, I have found it is more difficult to orgasm now. I'm on HRT as well as using the vaginal estrogen. It isn't anything my husband is or isn't doing. In general, I need a vibrator to orgasm now whereas in the past, I could orgasm in a variety of ways. It is what it is now.

I think this is so true and it’s not just personal experience. Somebody over in the “relationships” form started a pole about whether the big “O” is more difficult for those of us over 50.

And almost everybody agreed it’s more difficult now.
