DC is at SSSAS and loves it, I highly recommend it in general, but I wouldn’t describe the education model as “progressive” with lots of freedom for students. It’s a fairly traditional educational model.
Unless I’m misunderstanding OP’s description, it might be hard to find a more progressive education model in a school large enough to have a strong sports program. OP might need to decide between those two goal.

Neither Georgetown Day nor Burke are within 30 minutes of vienna. I wouldn’t even consider those commutes from east McLean. Just trying to get over the American Legion bridge for Burke is a nightmare.
You don’t need the American Legion Bridge. There are a couple other ways to go and sounds like the kid is old enough to get on the subway.
All of the Potomac bridges are a mess. MetroRail takes quite a long time each way to/from Vienna. Short of a helicopter, anything across the Potomac River is not viable from Vienna.
Agreed. Flint Hill, Madeira or Potomac are the best options coming from Vienna.

It is hard to get into. Saying it’s the best is a strong statement. Potomac isn’t for everyone. My son got in, but chose a different Virginia school.
