You might want to look around for where the mice have burrowed in. Sounds like they found a new home somewhere on the porch.

Subject: Puzzling mouse situation
Assuming you have furniture on your porch, check all the cushions and pillows. If you have some sort of upholstery, check that too. The mice may be stealing the stuffing for their nest. Otherwise, you probably have a family under the porch or somewhere near and they are trying to get inside for warm and food.

We’re puzzled as to why we had mice on the porch two days in a row (rather than a rogue mouse that just happened to wander in one day). There’s no food or anything we can think of to attract them. Why is this happening?? Now we can’t let the cat out there or leave the door from the house to the porch open!!
Where there is one mouse, there are usually several.
Also, now you have to be concerned about Toxoplasmosis.

A mouse happened upon your screened in porch, liked it, and invited friends over for a party.
This happened to us, except it was a crack in our window frame that attracted the mice (as well as a snake 😂). Once we fixed it, there were no more mice.

Of the 10 years you've lived in the house, how many have you had the cat? My guess is that there have been mice on the porch before, but you never saw them until the cat started chasing them.
Interesting to me that your reaction is to keep the cat inside. I would do the opposite, put the cat on the porch 24/7 until the mice are gone.

Mice are harder to get rid of than rats. They breed fast and they get everywhere.
If you can't afford or don't want an exteriminator (I recommend you go this route). You can leave traps, its probably wise to leave a few underneath the porch.
Their preferred bait is dark chocolate and / or peanut butter.
