Yes, and that's exactly what she is doing. I have nothing but respect for her. It's world news today.

Surprised at the harshness in this case. It does not seem fair.

Is that what you would have said about women who fought for your right to vote in this country? How about the ones who broke the law to help the enslaved?

The ignorance in this thread is astounding.

Yes, she broke the law and the sentence is horrifying. What's more horrifying is the complete lack of human rights in Morocco, but especially women's rights. And you are just shrugging your shoulders.

She wasn't doing anything for human or women's rights. Trying to draw a parallel between suffragettes in their own country trying to ensure a vote and someone being wildly provocative in a country not their own? Who exactly is ignorant again?

why do you hate women? Yes, she was doing it for human rights. Pull your head out of your a$$, your misogyny is clouding your judgement.

Not all women. Just idiots. She knew exactly what she was doing. I'm a woman by the way.

Why are you calling her an idiot, idiot? Yes, she knew what she was doing. She is fighting for her rights, you POS.

Guaranteed you know nothing about Morocco or how women (and even men) live there. She has every right to call out the horrible treatment of women and demand equal rights for all.

You've never lifted a finger for anyone else in your life.

Also, this thread is a dumpster fire. All these people would say that MLK should have sat in jail in Memphis, that he deserved it, and was an idiot. I don’t know enough Moroccan law to know if she broke a law, but if she did, then it is a very disturbing law and good for her for drawing attention to it. But lots of people on this thread think people should just shut up and take it, I guess, and only idiots engage in peaceful civil disobedience.

EXACTLY!!! I basically said the same thing upthread. This thread is pure insanity.

"On 23 August 2009,[2] along with her friend Zineb El Rhazoui, she co-founded the Mouvement alternatif pour les libertés individuelles (MALI), a movement to defend individual freedoms in Morocco.[3][1] In Moroccan Arabic (Darija), mali also means "What's wrong with me?" or "What are you accusing me of?"; thus it constitutes a rhetorical question to opponents of freedom, telling them to mind their own business."

How do you think change happens? She is being provocative to draw attention to her movement and to the fact that individual freedoms (especially for women) are extremely lacking in Morocco. I'm sorry you know nothing you about her or Morocco.
