Not booked. No places have even really responded except to say, check back in months, January, etc. One said their wait list was 3 years.

It seems pretty normal to book a spay a couple months out. Even my regular vet generally books them about that far. It is an elective surgery after all.

I see you’re not in the DC area, but we had the same experience down here. The vet was close to $1000 so we opted for the spay and neuter clinic ($175). We ended up driving down to Bowie for a fraction of the cost. It was a several month wait.

My advice for anybody who has a puppy is to schedule the spay neuter as soon as possible so that you can book your appointment. Chances are with a long waitlist by the time there of age is when the appointment will open up.

Op. Totally agree with all of this. Our dog is barely a puppy anymore, I wish we’d gotten on a wait list ages ago. I had no idea it would be so difficult. Dh is very precious about this dog so he wants her spayed at a place that just does the surgery day in and day out, not just our regular vet. All the places I’d think that would be go to - ASPCA and humane society spay/neuter clinics etc, are booked for months or even years. I posted a response email above from a place I reached out to - 3 YEAR wait list. Nuts.

Op here fwiw I found several cat spay neuter clinics. But not places that do dogs.

Where did you search? The humane societies where I live wrote back and said no. As I mentioned, I’m on a wait list or two, and each say they’ll check in in a few months.

I adopted my cat, maybe a 6 month old kitten, as a rescue. She had been recently spayed at a spay/neuter clinic.

Her incision was infected, and it cost me about $500 to treat it. I could have taken her to the spay clinic for free treatment, but it was pretty far away.

You never know. In any case, she's a delightful and healthy 5 year old now.
