I wonder if our kids know each other. My kid graduated 2 years ago, and we live EOTR in Anacostia. And yep, my kid took the bus/train, and it was a little over an hour each way. You do what you gotta do.

do a mix of driving and the new bus system. c60 runs north-south on 16th street and connects just north of the neighborhood to the c81. its probably typically about 35 min total. depending on your address, it might also work to walk south to use the c61.

I think the new route is the same as the old one and even references the old route. They even add buses on school days to accommodate the kids.

It’s unfortunate but the new bus system was created without having the school bus routes in mind. Big loss for the kids

That's pretty easy for those of us whose kids can walk to Jackson-Reed to say, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable judging someone who lives farther away for driving. (I would judge my neighbor for driving there, however.)

Thanks. HS is hard enough without having to wait for a bus transfer on a dark November morning in a cold rain. I'll drive them.


It’s not that hard and it’s not that dark. Lots of kids do it, it’s not like it’s 6 am.
