Up and down Benfield Road are some nice/family neighborhoods. Don’t know what part of SP you’re looking at… Maybe the other side of Ritchie Highway, close to Pasadena? I’ll give you that, but to say SP as a whole is hickish/redneck/waterbilly way off the mark. Lived in SP all my life…
Maybe you should leave your little bubble in Severna Park one day and take a drive down River Road/Bradley Blvd/Chain Bridge Rd in Bethesda/Potomac/McLean. Maybe you’ll humble yourself and see that you’re not as different from Pasadena as you think you are. If you think Chartwell is anything unique, you haven’t been around that much.
Severna Park is grossly overhyped because of its homes on the Severn River and because it doesn’t have apartments, but the non waterfront homes (80% of the homes) and neighborhoods are nothing to write home about, and there’s actually far better neighborhoods within Anne Arundel County itself.
I have been around. I lived all over the US, used to work in Potomac, have driven Chain Bridge Road numerous times (Nothing special about it), I am different than “the ‘Dena”, and I could care less about Chartwell.
Have a great day…

Bethesda is one of the only nice places left in Maryland.

Sorry, but the issue is you lived in SP all your life and bought into that Anne arundel county motto “the best place”. That they later had to add a tag line to …”for all” because it was offensive.
Once you look around at what Hoco and Bethesda has to offer, you get the idea that SP is pretty provincial. It’s saving grace is the water. But that water is often polluted and man does the sand get everywhere.
