No. I wore a one piece to the pool yesterday and it was miserably hot. Turning 50 in a couple of months and I’ve decided idgaf. There were bodies of all sizes sporting bikinis there and I realized I need to get over this hangup.

Glad you decided to go for it OP

I have the opposite issue of really loving the look of those swimsuits with skirts so they look like a cute little tennis dress. I will not wear one because I dont want to seem like I'm trying to hide something but I ultra care about the opinions of others and its a daily personal fight so I pick my battles.

OP here- Alr, I’m going to try some on. It’s frigging HOT and I hate my torso being encased in wet Lycra - that is it. I’m going yo look for high waisted bottoms. The heck with it.

OP, similar stats at 47 and after a couple of uncomfortable beach visits this year in one pieces, I'm switching back to bikinis next year, come hell or high water.

With your longer torso, I think a bikini will be flattering.

Wear the bikini! There are super cute high waisted ones if that makes you feel more comfortable.

This.
Someone said I was brave for wearing a bikini after giving birth.
No. I was hot.

Trying being a woman teacher in Kabul for brave.
Or leaving an abusive bastard.

A woman also called me brave for wearing a bikini. She’s someone who thinks that anyone over a size 2 is fat and should wear a burqa at the pool. I told her that life was too short to be worried that others don’t like my body. I wear what makes me comfortable and what makes me happy. For me, that’s a high waisted bottom with a supportive underwire bikini top. It is easier to go to the bathroom, I am a little less hot, and I can get the best fit because I cannot find one pieces that fit just right since I am pear shaped with a very small ribcage but large bust.

I love the j crew ruched high waisted bottom and I mix and match it with other tops.

Both of you are too kind. “Brave” is an insult disguised as a compliment. I genuinely compliment you on your temperament in handling jerks.

Except your mother. Mine was unable to enjoy our beach trip because she was so distressed about my BMI 22 mom bod in a bikini "for all to see." "It isn't FLATTERING "

Many of our mothers' generation deal with TONS of of this type of internalized misogyny. My MIL hasn't worn a bathing suit in over 40 years because she is so ashamed of her perfectly average body and feels it wouldn't be "flattering". Honestly, no one cares. Hope you were able to let it slide off your back!

I don't wear a bikini because I don't want to deal with the extra sunscreen.

They are but also the least comfortable.

Agree. I hate having to have my whole torso wet if I take a dip then hang out at the pool

My bmi is 32. I wear whatever I want. Including two pieces. It’s so comfy and liberating. I get compliments on the suit - my body is not aesthetically wow but so what.

No one cares. Really!

Wear what you want, OP. If you thought you couldnt pull it off, you wouldn't be asking.

Im early 50s, not overweight at all, and realized I haven't worn ANY swimsuit in 11 years (I think we did a beach vacation when my kids were 13 and 17). I would definitely go with a two piece (and not a tankini) if i found myself needing one. I never looked great in a swimsuit at any age or weight, tbh. Such is life.
