Agree that it's a lease-only proposition. OP said they were looking to buy.

I love the Discovery. I did like the Defender, but I feel like with three models, everyone seems to have one. As everyone else says, though, this would be my I have way too much disposable income car, so I know I could handle the repairs and maintenance.

The Grenadier has a BMW engine, a ZF transmission, and a Magna chassis. It’s built in a former Mercedes plant. I’d say it’s much better than the Defender. You can take it to any mechanics who know how to fix BMWs.

The Defender is a Land Rover

If you have to have one lease one. We've had 2 (Range Rover and Range Rover Sport) and they are the most over complicated and poorly engineered cars made. I don't think we had a 15,000 mile stretch on either of them without an air ride suspension failure which ran $5K to repair out of warranty. "I think we should go back to the Land Cruiser" was possible the greatest thing my wife has ever said to me.

NP. I also love classic Land Rovers. I would never own one outside UK/Eire though.

In the UK/Eire, any mechanic knows how to repair them and has ready access to parts. Elsewhere, repairs and maintenance are unduly expensive and most mechanics are not familiar with the vehicle.

No one needs these overpriced gas-guzzlers.

I love Land Rovers. I had one about 20 years ago. They’ve not gotten better. Don’t buy one.

They should all come with a bumper sticker that says: “I’m Insecure so I Drive a Land Rover”

I go out of my way to make driving more frustrating for Land Rover owners.

Only thing worse is the Defender. These off roading cars driving around the beltway and never going off road once.

Looks nice and interior is premium quality.

Mechanically crappy. Tons of maintenance.

We had one about 6 years ago. Never again.

I would like to have a vintage RR or LR that I could drive for fun and not as a daily driver. Cheap to buy and expensive to maintain, but could maintain at my own pace with another daily driver. I would not spend all that money on a new one, but at least it would be under warranty. I would not be likely to buy any car new, though. YMMV

A Range Rover is a "Land Rover," as it's made by LR. A Land Rover model like a Defender or Discovery is not a Range Rover, though. OP didn't specify.
