Same— I showed them how to use the app once to set the temperature and I think they never needed to do anything after that. They love it.

My dad writes down the things he wants from Amazon/ebay/random internet retailer and I order and wrap for the next gift giving occasion (Christmas/Birthday/Father’s Day). Think: reflective vest for dog walking, book on golf swings, long bristle brush for dryer vent cleaning, random supplement that’s supposed to help with gout… He is very capable but online shopping vexes him and he knows my mom will scrutinize every purchase.

We both enjoy him opening these random items. Bonus points that my mom is always baffled.

Out of print books that they don't know how to find for themselves. I got my mom a vintage knitting book on eBay that she remembers having had in the 1970s, she loves it. Got my dad some esoteric children's books from his childhood that were a bit of a headache to track down but totally worth it.

My parents love this coffee cake. I give it to them every year.

I always bring an expensive panettone for my mom. It means she has a nice baked good to serve on Boxing Day when people stop by, without having to cook it herself.
