Agree. I never would have occurred to me that a person was planning ot back into a spot they had already passed unless they were in reverse.

Agree. I frequently back into spots and this is how I do it.

They were wrong. Once you pass the spot, you're out of luck. No one is going to assume you're backing into the spot. Pull into a parking spot like a normal person.

If in doubt leave the spot for the first person.

I've never heard of this "you pass the spot, you lose it" theory. I have ceded the spot to folks who passed it but have their blinker on to back in, as here, and would have assumed that's what this guy was doing here. There is some sort of weird prejudice on this board that I have not observed in real life against people who back in, so please FYI when considering these responses. I think you were wrong here, but the flip off was unnecessary.

I always assume a car with a blinker on is waiting for a car in front of them not behind them.

This sounds right to me!

It’s first one in the spot, blinkers don’t count. Depending on the direction a car backs out another car that was not first can easily slip in. If I see an opening I take it. Life is too short for blinkers and waiting.

If you've passed the spot, it's not your spot. Period. Doesn't matter how you plan to enter said spot.
