Do you actually know any high school kids? This isn't the 90s. HS kids barely have time to sleep with all they have going on.

I babysat a lot in college and never took these kind of jobs. One mom wanted me to hang with her kid for 30 mins until the school bus came - and to pay me for 30 mins - never mind she was 15-20 mins away and this was every day. You need aftercare or an adult that you employ as others have suggested. or pay very well.

We have a nanny for this. We pay $30/hour and she has a guaranteed 25 hours/ week. School pick up through dinner time doesn’t get to 25, so she does a weekly date night for us and then every other Saturday. It’s been nice to not have to scramble for sitters!

+1. There’s also a martial arts place nearby that does pickup for other nearby schools. Ask your school admin, they have to know who’s picking up each kid, so will know the aftercare providers that others in your school use.

We found a recent college grad to drive my high school kid home from school a few years ago. I *think* we paid $20-25/hr but it was a while ago. It involved no childcare since the kid was 14 and only needed a ride. I never worried about the stranger aspect.
^school was 20-25 months each way so it was basically an hour a day.

My DD and two friends (HS seniors) were hired by a family to do this. Only one girl babysat at a time but the girls traded off days and were able to sub for one another as needed. Seemed like a smart way to go ensure coverage.

I found a college student who did this 3x/wk. you need guaranteed hours to make it worth their while. It can’t just be an hour a day.

This is not an option at every school. I know it isn’t at ours.
