I've seen people selling their clothes on Poshmark too. Doesn't mean anyone bought them.

I would not do custom just pick a diamond and setting from stock. None of the online do well with custom. They have a way to use a magnetic setting for you to try on diffeshaies and settings in the store so fun.

People sell stuff on LoopTroop but your problem will be that individuals who spent a lot of money for those mined diamonds are not realistic at all about what they are worth. People who got suckered into spending 30k for a diamond are going to try to get more from an individual buyer because they know how little places like Tysons Watch or Vienna Jewelers are going to give them. I think very few of the owners of these diamonds realize what is going on in the market and even if shown, they'll refuse to believe it.

Ah, see that’s is biggest scam in the industry. When YOU want to sell your mined diamond, they’ll tell you they don’t hold their value and offer you 20%. When they resell it, they’ll price it at exactly what you paid for it. It’s not that diamonds don’t have resale value, it’s that the industry is a grift.


Mined diamonds are NOT rare it's a price controlled racquet. The same companies tried to control lab diamonds but vendors in other countries did not play along. The first jeweler with a brick and mortar store that I found quoted me prices for lab studs that were ridiculous. His prices for labs were only slightly less than mined diamonds. Companies in India and other countries didn't play this game and went around these attempts to control and people bought labs from Ouros and other vendors online. There are vendors from China and more countries. It forced everyone else to bring their lab prices down. Some of the vendors mentioned in these posts have inflated prices for labs. I found Ritani to be the best deal but I love looking at Ouros on etsy because they work with customers to design jewelry and some of their stuff is amazing.

Only the buyer knows they're worthless. And maybe a gemologist, I don't know whether they can tell.


The concept of buying lab grown diamonds is just like cultured pearls. The aristocracy viewed cultured pearls as “worthless” as well but slowly came around. British royal family still wears natural Bahraini pearls.

A gemologist or experienced jeweler can tell the difference if certain inclusions are present. And you can tell the difference with a diamond tester -- lab diamonds do not conduct heat and electricity in the same way mined diamonds do (I believe this is because they form at an accelerated rate, but I'm not sure). But bottom line is going to be that certified lab diamonds are lasered with an inscription on the girdle to indicate they are a lab -- and that is easy enough for just about anyone to see with a loupe.

Thanks for that explanation! I’m considering replacing my engagement diamond with a lab diamond since I know if I try to sell it and/or upgrade, I’d never get anything comparable. Wondering how a lab diamond would look with two mined diamond baguettes.


You can't discern the difference by eye so if you choose similar characteristics, you should be fine. One give away that a person is wearing a lab is that the color is much cleaner than the average diamond particularly if it is a large diamond. Those mined diamonds that are very, clean and very white are very, very, very expensive and your receptionist at work is unlikely to be able to afford them. Lab diamonds allow everyone to afford incredible quality wrt diamond characteristics not just bigger gems.

It's almost impossible to tell the difference between a cz and a diamond by looking at them. Until the cz ages, at which point it can get cloudy, and just look like glass. Apparently you can reheat czs and make them sparkle again, but I don't know the details.
