They're neutral, impersonal, expensive, not food, and go with pretty much everyone's decor. Everyone where we live knows what they are and so they're almost used as a currency. I get them for my friends and family back East and even my mom, who is downsizing, really enjoys them because they are simple and she can rotate out the colors seasonally.

I always see these advertised in the New Yorker and i didn’t think anyone actually bought them! I thought it was someone’s vanity project or something. I mean what a weird thing to buy.


I love the idea of these being like a currency...that there are big increment smells and little increment smells. Like Pina Colada Vacation divides up into Basic Vanilla and Upside-Down Pineapple Cake SAHM. Or that they circulate like currency.
