I would move to the Dallas area in a hot second. I visit Plano/Frisco regularly and find it to be a friendly and diverse area.
+1 to others who say the location of the job matters--the DFW metro area is gigantic.
If your youngest DC is headed into senior year, I'd try to arrange for DC to finish out HS--even if that means you split up for a year.

I would never ever move to Texas becsuse of the politics and women's rights being eroded. Huge gun culture.

Regarding cost, Dallas is a cheaper metro area than DC, BUT and this is a big BUT, HP/UP are possibly even more expensive than comparable areas in the DMV, but, and this is also a but, you also get nicer housing for your money. The teardowns in Dallas, unlike in the DMV, are actually replaced by something very nice. They know how to build houses in Dallas.

Removing politics from this thread, Dallas is actually a really great place. There’s a very good art scene, amazing restaurants on every corner they do food right in Texas! You’re not constrained to Dallas county Denton county to the north and Fort Worth county to the west provide a lot of amazing housing opportunities, you will get a lot more bang for your buck than you do here, even though prices have gone up considerably in recent years.

I moved a lot as a child. As such I have friends from many different “best” schools in the country, including one mentioned in this thread. It is shocking how much less successful the “sucessful” Dallas grads are. Churchy teacher is the pinnacle of success. I’m not knocking that as a career, but the percentages are off the charts compared with the other schools I attended in other areas.


This is quite different from my experience. I’ve seen many mediocre Dallas grad achieve great success in areas such as CRE, business, sales, etc. There is a great entrepreneurial culture in Texas. We know someone who dropped out of high school and now owns a billion+ oil and gas company.

Where in Dallas? Because Dallas is pretty spread out. If the office is in Plano or Frisco or Irving or Arlington (which people will all call Dallas) then living in Dallas proper probably won't work.

There's little to medium public transportation, but the car is really king. If you don't need to worry about schools, then you have a lot of options.

^^Sorry, I misread and see that your youngest will finish school there. As a PP said - UP/HP are the best, but it's also a very expensive area. Richardson ISD is also good. And there are also lots of good private schools - Ursuline, Hockaday (girls); St. Marks, Jesuit (boys).


I’d add Episcopal School of Dallas as a great private. If you don’t want to do private, you need to be zoned for Highland Park or live in one of the suburbs. I would be inclined to go the private route, as I think it would be easier to be a new kid in the smaller community movement. UP/HP are somewhat insular with many people whose families have been there generations. People in Texas are very friendly, but it can be tough to break into certain crowds. This may not bother you, but it might bother your kid.
