The thing no one talks about is that Tony’s mother has borderline personality disorder. That actress is brilliant.

They never mention BPD in the show. I recognized the behaviors because Tony’s mother did stuff my mother did. I read an interview with the actress, and she confirmed she was aiming for conveying a borderline.

I felt seen.

Two thumbs up for this show. I might need to watch it again.

Dh is from Staten Island/nj.


My college pal was from Staten Island. She never said her family was Mafia, but she casually said the mafia would watch their house for them when they were on vacation.

Tony Soprano had a meeting and ate at an Indian restaurant.
Tony also loves Chinese takeout (orange peel beef specifically), as well as he and Carm's special place was a sushi place.
Tony B went into to business with a Korean immigrant.

So there are POC where appropriate... the show takes place in suburban NJ and NYC... so reflects their realities.


He also did business with Jews and Arabs and Hispanics. It’s very indicative of NJ and what Italians say about each group (including Sicilians!)

Italians take lots of pride in doing crime quietly and not doing “random crime” .

Oh wow have you never seen TLC and all it's glory promoting only adoption and how wonderful all those reunions are when in reality that is not the truth. Or Seeking Sister Wives another Bible-thumping horrific abuse of women. Or Polygamy like the Browns where they promote getting on social service programs the more the better, not like Kody or Janelle's supposed careers supported those kids the state did. Oh, and the Duggars that were just lovely, and the Huckabees good old Sarah and her creepy daddy old gov Mikey went to bat for them many times. All of these are examples of RW garbage TV.

I can go on and on about many shows on TV that show RW crap.

And to answer your question, I don’t watch any reality tv at all and have no idea about any of the references you made. But I do know the fictional tv shows I’ve watched recently are garbage, even the Law and Order reboot I couldn’t wait to see. Same goes for the Sex and the City reboot. Garbage. Plain old garbage. Production companies are too busy worrying about filling in boxes and “educating” as opposed to entertaining.

Amazing show and such an accurate depiction of growing up in New Jersey in the 90’s. They capture so much nuance of growing up there, from the mannerisms, to wardrobe, to interior design, to speech patterns, etc.

I think Breaking Bad had all the drama and great acting of Sopranos but fewer F bombs, which made it a better show in my opinion. The language in Sopranos at times was lazy writing .
