OP here. I’m 40 and btdt and moved towels at a resort because they were hogging up space with nobody there. I have no problem doing that but I would never see those people again and there was zero confrontation. A yoga class is different because I see these women every single week.

What these people are doing in yoga is very middle schoolish. Tell the administrator. Get it taken care of. These rare the Wolf Trap people gone awry. That behavior is barely tenable at Wolf Trap, never mind in much more limited space.
We’re talking about people who arrived at the crack of dawn to save poolside seats that they weren’t planning to use until 11 AM. That’s not OK and their stuff gets moved.

I think the studio should use masking tape to mark spaces so there is no guess work in where to put your mat and everyone has adequate space. The yoga class should not allow more attendees then there are marked spaces.

PP here. There should be policies, but you never touch anyone else's stuff. And you don't save spots in a fclass, which clearly has limited spots. Get your arse out of bed and get to class on time to get a spot.
This is just dumb. People are more important than stuff. If your stuff is so important and Shall Not Be Touched, don’t leave it unattended. Maybe your stuff will be what gets thrown in the sea. Or stolen. Or whatever. As soon as you walk away from it, you have lost control over it.

A few years ago I was one of these women. There was a group of us and whoever got there first reserved the spots. We were upset that other people started complaining. But eventually the gym put its foot down and you could only get your own spot. So all of us then showed up super early and still took all the spots we wanted.
In hindsight, I am mortified. In that moment it was fun to be a part of a group doing something together every week that truly none of us could thinking clearly, I realize now.
Gym or yoga teacher should make a policy. Yoga should be a stress-free experience for everyone. Not just a small clique.

To add, it sounds like Pure Barre class, OP? Hate that place because it is way too small for what they offer, and there are definitely stunted mean girl types there.

It's the people saving spots who are overly obsessed with where their mats are. Why do they have to be right in the middle of the room? Why do they have to be right next to 4 other people during a one hour yoga class-- they aren't chatting over cocktails.
OP (and others) are not complaining about not getting a specific spot, they are complaining about getting shunted in the corner because a group of people have decided they are the most important people in the room.
