The ED Agreement itself specifically states that "If the student is an early decision candidate and is seeking financial aid, the student need not withdraw other applications until the student has received notification about financial aid from the admitting early decision institution."

It appears there could be some lag between when schools provide ED decisions and FA decisions and so some lag between when a student learns of the ED decision and when they are obligated to withdraw other applications.

This is a more complicated issue then people are making it sound, at least for an applicant applying for FA.

My DC will get an ED decision on Friday afternoon. The school is need blind. The school also asked for the CSS documents and we submitted them all, including in response to follow up requests. But the application portal shows that not all the financial documents requested have even been uploaded from College Board by the school, although they were submitted weeks ago. We called the telephone number for questions on FA listed on the portal and they assured us there is no problem with our submission and they are just backed up and haven't been able to process things yet. They said the ED decision is totally separate. They had no estimate of when the CSS submission would be processed. So I don't see how a child in that situation will be expected to "immediately" withdraw any other applications if there isn't even any clarity on when an FA decision will be made.

Well that’s probably a private school and your counselor is trying to help her other students get acceptances. There is no need to withdraw immediately.

Once you put down your deposit shouldn’t you morally withdraw all others that same day

Your DC only gets one swing in an ED round - how would they have missed something?

Do you need to remove schools from Common App that you had transcripts sent to but haven’t submitted an application? I assume not as it’s not an application.

In a few months, this will be the kid who misses a lot of important stuff. Knowing how to navigate a portal/student account or write an email is super basic.

If they give up on administrative tasks after five minutes, registration will crush them.

Start preparing them to be a little more persistent and not give up on things.

Within ten minutes of receiving their ED acceptance last year, our child clicked accept and had withdrawn all other applications.

Presumably you don't apply ED if you aren't planning to attend, so why wait?

It may not be a big deal - but we are trying to teach our kid to do the right thing.
He is not doing this as his top priority today - but it will be done by the end of the week.
