It doesn’t have to be this way. You chose how you want it to be. Mine was only allowed to apply to 10. That’s what his HS allowed. One main essay and maybe two supplemental ones that were more like short answers. Applied TO. Got in everywhere because he didn’t waste any applications on long shots. He applied one year down for merit aid and got a lot for a B students. It was easier than I thought. And the new FAFSA made it easy for me.

I actually avoid parents entirely. I cannot stand it. My own family (parents, in-laws) are stressing me out too. People that generation have NO clue what a mess the college landscape is. It makes me feel like utter shit about our options.


Welp, every study says that major means more than school unless you are talking about tippy top schools where noone cares that you majored in sociology.

I'm the thread OP, and was tickled to see this pop up again. Class of 2025 Screamers, you will get through this, and when all the dust settles your kids will have options. Treat it like having a baby/small child: find a tribe of supportive friends, cheer for the kid you have, and have stock answers and/or blow darts at the ready for intrusive braggarts.

I want to throw up over it. It is the stupidest, most aggravating thing: jumping through a million hoops like a good little trained monkey, all for the privilege of maybe, possibly getting in, and being allowed the great pleasure of forking out tens of thousands of dollars.

I’ve read that you should put things for. For a week. Come back to it.

Most essays need 6-8 rounds of edits.

My sophomore has had a list since freshman year. I am not at al worried about how things will go in her senior year. She's a perfectionist and a check the box person. I need this after dealing with my very disorganized older son who just graduated from college and was extremely difficult to motivate through the process. Sorry PP--you will get through it!

Not true unless accepted ED.The slow drip of random results will continue until late January possibly February. Then there’s the agony of waitlists, scholarships etc. There will be a whirlwind oof emotions until the last acceptance deadline passes. Good luck!
