No tip, and boycott places that force you to explicitly choose.

I mean they are getting minimum wage. The purpose in tipping was to pay employees who are making less than that. When I served tables and did bartending in my early 20s, I expected tips and I still tip well for these jobs but not counter service.

Yeah, no tipping for the touch screen stuff. I did do it though about the first year after the pandemic, mainly out of guilt and feeling like I was supposed to do this. I’ve been doing no tip every time now and I’m okay with it. These places aren’t serving me and getting paid minimum wage.

Ha! My new favorite tip screen I received was at Sweet Frog over the weekend. The worker looked annoyed that I quickly selected NO TIP, but come the F on!

*I* walk in and select my cup size.
*I* pull the handle to fill my cup.
*I* add any toppings I want myself.
*I* place my cup on the digital scale.
*I* type in my rewards phone number.

I do all the work there and you think you should be tipped?

You're only supposed to tip during a sit down meal for a waiter/waitress or if it's delivered to your house.

I'm not tipping someone to hand me a Starbucks drink when she's making $15/hour. Give me a break.

+1 This is me too. I tip 20-25% when dining in. I tip the pizza delivery person. I do not tip at Subway, McDonald's, Cava, Baja Fresh, etc. I also do not tip the Amazon/UPS delivery person.

I tip 5%, once i find out if the tip goes to the worker, not the owner/boss.

Anonymous wrote:It started with the pandemic and the increase in delivery orders. Even though you are picking up, someone has to prepare the order for takeout. I usually don’t tip as much as a delivery but always tip $5 since we usually order for a family of four.

When I was a hostess, preparing takeout was my job. No one tipped me, and I didn’t need to be tipped. I was paid minimum wage.

True but it's getting harder for restaurants to retain workers. If we want to keep these places open, it helps to tip the workers who make it possible.

Then let them close. Business owners/corporations can pay the workers, not expect the customers to subsidize the wages they're too cheap to pay. Come on.

Yes, following this logic, tips are actually propping up a larger number of restaurants than should exist and some should close until equilibrium is achieved.

No tipping on take out.

Why?

You get paid a salary to deliver. Why should you get a tip? Doctors perform a service, you gonna tip them too just for doing their jobs?

Increasingly it should be no.

If you get paid a salary, $0 tip for you.

Then pay more and charge more. The market will decide which businesses stay in business and which ones won’t.

I didn’t get tips for doing my job, so why should anyone else earning wages? Servers are the only exception.

Can’t wait until, the US gets rid of asinine tipping culture altogether.

It's escalatory - places that want to retain good employees are going to make tipping automatic or easy. My niece and nephew worked one summer at a beach town; she was at an ice cream shop where there was a cash tip jar but no tip option for people paying with cards. He was at a food truck with both the cash tip jar and the online option. He made about 3x as much, all because of tips. Guess where they both wanted to work the next summer?

Ok, so how much do you tip your ups driver, usps driver, DHL driver, and fed ex driver each time they drop off a package?

I'm also not tipping when I order at the counter.

No one is waiting on you at the counter, no one is waiting on you at the drive through. Hence, no tip.
