Rory. Very Irish. I lived abroad with a huge number of Irish students and there were at least 5-6 Rory's in the group.

I personally really like the name. Don't think it's difficult at all - particularly for Americans.

I know a female Rory and people assume 100% of the time on hearing her name that she's male, so I think male Rory is fine.

But I agree with other posters that it can be a pronunciation nightmare. I had great difficulty making my R-full name understood when I was little and still struggle to get my Rs out in some phonetic contexts.

It competes for my least favorite name ever. I just think the sound and the spelling are completely unattractive. I'm usually a "don't care what ppl choose" person on the name front, but there's something about Rory that makes me cringe.

I’ve heard it most often as a boy’s name. I find it kind of sissy-sounding, TBH, like Julian or Francis.

The only male Rory I know was unable to pronounce his Rs when I knew him in elementary school.

I love the name Rory and also have a secret soft spot for Roarke, both due to my obsession with various romance novel heros of the past, but I agree I have a hard time saying it. Yes, "roar" isn't hard to say, but slipping from the second R into the "ee" sound is oddly tricky.

I really like it, for both boys and girls, but I too find it hard to say.
