+100 I hate that anything with more coverage than underwear is deemed frumpy or assumed that you're trying to hide something.

Swim skirt. Not all are equal. Get one that looks good on you. The one I have hides what needs to be hidden but looks good.

I'm pushing 50 and have more of a bum than most and this is my favorite swimsuit when I don't want to wear a swim skirt:

It's full coverage and the front is super flattering.

I am long waisted and have never liked how I look in board shorts, even short ones -- from the front it really helps to have something cut higher on the leg.

What do people think about color or pattern? Would you go with a solid color or even a dark neutral color to avoid drawing attention to things, or would a fun print help distract from the stuff I'm less excited about? I'm considering these but wondering if they are too bold and I should look for something more subtle:

They are all nice. I like the third one the best.

If you are long waisted you may want to avoid high necks and even one shoulder as they elongate the torso.

Honestly it sounds like you have a nice figure and will look better than most women your age. Aging is natural. My mother is 68 and still wears regular tank bathing suits and swims regularly.

They cover my butt, do not require waxing, but are form fitting and don't look out of proportion with tops.

I have both swim skirts and the Athleta Surge boyshorts, and they are fine. The challenge with all of these is that when they get wet, they take a long time to dry and cling to your skin.

You wear these to pool/beach on vacation?

DP: I do. You can cinch the legs a bit if you like. In addition to coverage, I like that they work well for my regular mile swims—they are form fitting enough not to drag. I can’t wait to get to the outdoor lap pool!

You should buy yourself a really flattering suit that's comfortable. I just bought these two and found them so high quality. Whatever, I'm 45 and I just want to feel as good as I can.

I like Athleta's "clean full bottom." I have several in solid colors that I mix and match with various tops.

I love the swimshorts from Athleta or Title 9. Don't have to worry about waxing, and they are more comfortable for kayaking, etc.
