Actually, a report that half of critical care patients in France are under 60 is news. I don't recall any other country that has cited such an affect on people under 60.
Netherlands has said the same. 50% under 50 so far.

Nicaragua so far has no confirmed cases.

"Luxury conglomerate LVMH said factories that produce perfume and makeup for brands like Christian Dior and Givenchy will be making hand sanitizer starting Monday. LVMH will deliver the free disinfectant to French authorities and the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, the largest hospital system in Europe. “Through this initiative, LVMH intends to help address the risk of a lack of product in France and enable a greater number of people to continue to take the right action to protect themselves from the spread of the virus,” the company said in a statement, adding it will honor the commitment “for as long as necessary.”

Here's why its news: Those folks under 60 have complicating conditions and underlying health factors. But with limited capacity, the health care system judges them to be more likely to survive and thus to warrant an ICU slot. Its just math, sad but just math. Italy's in the same boat. You give the ICU bed to the 55 year old with asthma and not the 85 year old with emphysema. = decades of life saved
40 year old with young kids get help. 65 year old grandma left to die.
In a world with infinite resources, the above would not be true. We dont live in that world.
All that said, I would want the 40 yo w kids to get the bed vs my 77 yo father., all other things being equal if it came to that. "He's lived his life". I'd say the same if I were older too. War is hell.

...besides confirmed damage to lungs and immune system, kidney, liver, gallbladder, brain matter, cardiovascular system, spleen, etc ... wait for it.... there is more!!!
Just posted on another thread: recently discovered damage to central nervous system: in China they found virus in the cerebrospinal fluid of a male patient- he recovered, not sure about sequela
And we still do not know all about the possible long term damage.
This happened with Spanish flu. The book/movie Awakenings was about people with neurological defects belatedly caused by that. And I have a family member who died of it about 15 years after the flu. (Not sure how long the symptoms took to show up but he was totally disabled for years prior to death).
Q: anyone have any info about the potential for central nervous system damage mentioned above? That freaks me out.
Hmmm..now that I look at the literature, it appears that it's actually kind of controversial whether those cases were caused by Spanish flu or whether it was a separate wave of illnesses that coincidentally struck. But here's some literature on it, for those that are curious.
