This. Nobody has time to drive to Arlington or Maryland to these awesome clubs. Also it is hard to make a top team when they already have established teams. How often does it happen that a newcomer gets an invite to the top team? Even during tryouts they focus on their own kids

When your player isn't a standout or been properly trained them no, you don't get those invites. Valor takes anyone and everyone they can from other clubs but those other clubs pass on valor kids. Basic critical thinking would lead you the right assumption, valor talent and training is the problem. They look decent at the younger ages because they copy GRF and teach physical play only. It all falls apart when they get older and you need to be able to do more than run into another player.

CYA does the same crap where Valor coaches are at the little kids’ academy sessions “overseeing” things while the parent coaches are actually in charge. They try to make it sound like academy is run by professional staff but the staff just kind of stand around while the parents do the work. Our parent coaches said last fall that they felt like the suggested plans CYA gave them for the academy session weren’t very good. The team practice where the parent wrote up the practice plans was generally much better for skill learning.

Do other rec leagues have any clinics or academy sessions run by professional staff, that are actually good? I think part of the problem with CYA/SYA is they aren’t good with development at the young ages and thus can’t help parent volunteers coach effectively. It’s total luck of the draw to get a parent who knows what they’re doing without needing help. That is no way to build a pipeline of decent players. They only care about maximizing profits.

Definitely regret turning down an offer for a top team elsewhere to stay with a top team at Valor. On one hand DC is probably getting more playing time at Valor than they would have at other club, and it's good for their confidence to be valued. On the other hand, coaching probably not as good and the talent pool is not deep enough for the team to be successful as a whole. Really hoping DC can break in somewhere else because I don't know if they would want to go a step down in terms of competition level. But I don't see Valor suddenly attracting more talent given their reputation. I wish I knew what I know now when my kid was younger...

As a rec parent, it's really annoying when CYA lessons get bumped from the field house for Valor. Last summer my kid was signed up for an indoor session and got bumped to an outdoor session - 5pm weeknights in July. No thank you, not after spending all day outside at camp already.

SYA and CYA players still make up the older ages. Also, there are many talented u littles (u12 annd below) and they don’t come from valor.

Talented u-little around here means early developer. Give me a break.
