I will answer this in good faith. Between Gwen and Tim, they have 4 pensions (army, teacher, teacher, congressman). Between that and social security, their retirement is secure.

For a very long time, they were a dual income teacher/teacher household. You know how much money they make. For a long time, they tried IVF to have children. You know how much that costs. He has put money into his children’s 529 plan. They had a house that they sold when he moved into the governor’s mansion. Until his decision to run for office, the Walz family had a perfectly middle class life.

What he has not done, is to enrich himself while in office. This is not a failure, it’s a good thing. He didn’t sell himself out and make himself beholden to special interests, which means that he could actually work on behalf of his constituents without external pressures. I think we have became so used to corruption in politics that when we see someone who is not, it seems like a bad thing.

My midwestern dad never made big bucks or had any investments but he did earn a pension over 35 years of hard work and that plus SS means his retirement has been more than comfortable for him.

A LOT of Americans can relate to someone who doesn’t have a million dollar investment portfolio.

That’s an interesting idea. What do you do when your abusive husband is the father, and will not terminate parental rights when he sees a baby as a means to keep you under control for 18 more years. Yes, women are forced to raise babies. Republicans who want to get rid of no-fault divorce are doing the work of abusive men, and even if they weren’t, murder by partner is the leading cause of death in pregnant women.

This guy was a TEACHER, for god's sake. He wasn't a high priced lawyer, he didn't have wealth and connections like the Bush's. Ford was also from Nebraska, but he went to Yale. Walz went to a state college in western Nebraska.

Actually, I think what Walz especially brings to the ticket includes:
His years as a teacher and coach--he understands kids and understands how to educate people
His knowledge--related to his teaching--of the world and implications for world events, when so much of US foreign policy has led to disasters over the years because of people who don't know s*** about the countries they're dealing with.

The majority of babies that are actually adopted in the US are white babies. While "plenty of Americans woudl love to adopt a newborn" the vast majority want white babies. Right now, there are waits for white babies while minority babies are not being adopted and are forced into the foster care system if the mother rescinds her parental rights.

Right now, poverty is the leading indicator for who want and get the most abortions. Yes, I know that the Republicans are against "abortions as contraception" but the fact is that the poor are generally less educated about birth control and less able to get birth control. Many poor do not live within easy travel to free clinics and often don't know about the ability to get contraceptive care at free clinics. And many poor women are talked out of contraceptive care. The other contributing problem is that minorities are represented in much larger percentages in poor communities than in the general public or higher income levels. That means that many more pregnancies and abortions happen in poor communities which means larger percentages of minorities than the general popular.

Your policy would only exacerbate an existing problem. Yes, there would be more white babies for people to adopt, but there would also be far more minority babies available and people still would be less interested in adopting them and therefore even more of those babies would end up in the foster care system. Having a larger foster care system perpetuates many of the problems with income disparities, such as increased risk of delinquency, increase risk of gang participation and increases in crime rates, especially among juveniles.

I’d say Walz has done pretty good for himself and his family. I mean come on. He lives in a governor’s mansion. Sheesh.
