So, I let this go for a few days until the total awkwardness on my part melted off. I also asked a couple of other friends who thought it was weird but who know her and have hung out with her, so...
I ended up sending a breezy (remember the Breezy friends episode?) text: "Ha, OK. Take good care and hope to see you around."
THEN she replied with four Emoji hearts. I'm basically...done. Yeah. Weird. Ugh. I hate being an adult.
What do you think she meant by the four hearts? Red hearts for love? Yellow hearts for friendship?
That's pretty intense - hearts are to show someone how much you care about them - which is the opposite of her reply to the invitation. Sounds like she's backtracking?
Speaking of being on the spectrum .....
Op, I'm sorry. You're not the awkward friend here.
I remember very early when I was a new mom to a 8 month old (this was 5 years ago). This was my first time making mom friends and we had just moved cross country a year before. I was new to SAH and we actually did have a group of about 4 other couples we saw frequently that we met when we moved, but no kids. I was hosting a playdate for about 10 other moms from my postnatal yoga class at my house. Everyone had left but 2 moms and I said "That was fun, maybe we can get out husbands together and do a family or couples thing. I would love for my husband to meet some of the dads" and the girl said the very same thing "Oh, I'm so busy on weekends. We don't have room for a new friend" and the other woman said more or less the same thing ... I still feel slightly embarrassed. I actually ended up being very good friends with this woman and her husband and children.I can see her even saying that to this day, after we have hung out maybe 500 times, no exaggeration. She's just a very woe is me person who gets overwhelmed with life.
