To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee, (Nelle Harper Lee), modeled the neighbor boy Dill after Truman Capote. He lived next door in childhood. They played together and even shared Lee’s typewriter. Capote later went on to write his first book, Other Voices, Other Rooms, and has a tomboy character resembling Lee.

Harper Lee was a paid assistant to Truman Capote when he was doing the background reporting for In Cold Blood. It was just after she submitted To Kill A Mockingbird to her publisher. Everyone was very aware of her involvement at the time -- and all of her copious notes are now public -- but he then didn't give her any real acknowledgement in his book. A lot of people said it was because he was jealous that she basically got famous in the interim when To Kill a Mockingbird was published.

The paint used on the Tin Man contained aluminum powder landing Buddy Edson in the Hospital and replaced, the Cowardly Lion’s costume was made from a real Lion’s Hide, the witch was severely burned from a failed pyrotechnic trick; Toto’s foot was broken when stepped on and can be seen limping.

Weren’t there also suicides on the set?

No, that is a myth.

Really? I have the original vhs release and it really does appear someone is hanging.
