Haha! So true. I also love when they brag about 1st place finishes or big wins and oversized trophies and medals after beating up on inferior competition ... but when they travel to big regional tournaments the parents suddenly get vague with the details—pivoting to “we had so much fun!”

My POV: DS plays baseball (since tee-ball), he's going to try out for MS next year and play through high school. If he does that and gets to play for his college team, I'll be really proud of him no matter what name is on the sign at the college entrance. It won't matter if it's Harvard, state school, community college, middle of nowhere. If he can continue to play a sport he loves while in college, who cares? And who cares if I'm happy that he's happy? If he decides to drop baseball before, by or after college? Still proud over here as long as he's happy and has other passions while in school.

Yeah. I know a couple whose kid plays baseball. Dad worked with him pretty much everyday when he was not booked with studying or another team. Kid’s on this team or that team. Kid did not get drafted coming out of high school until like round 20. So, he goes to college to play. Kid quits after his sophomore year.

Yeah - he got drafted but only like a top third round pick. And he only got $500K signing bonus. Loser. But we like the parents. Kid bumbled through two minor league seasons then gets called up. He does okay - not great. Still, what a loser right? Couple seasons in he gets traded and started playing regular. Still -geez - not like a Star right? Sure he was n a Gold flick ever but that’s not hard. Sure he made an all-star team or two, or three - like everyone doesn’t do that. Yeah his current contract only pays him something like $12M a year, and I read estimates for signing are 5 years $20M - 25M per. Like we are supposed to think that’s nice or something.

Parents are actually really nice as is the kid, now man of course.

Do not underestimate the power of the sports alumni network.

Do broke no-name LACs with like 1,400 kids really cut players from their soccer, xcountry, baseball, lax and hockey teams? I find that hard to believe. You're literally paying overpriced tuition at a no-name school in a crummy middle of nowhere town so your kid can keep playing.

I know quite a few six-figure earners who went to those middle-income schools. And, I know a few Ivy Leaguers who will never earn six-figures.
