Bobby has never been accused of being a developmental coach. Bobby is a connected coach. He does his best work via Twitter.
If that's the case, who's actually developing the players? They can't all just be naturally gifted and not receiving any feedback or training???
Exactly! The naysayers don't want to hear the answer. They already know it!
Anonymous wrote:There's also the half year factor versus the full year factor. FCV teams train for 10 months, instead of just 6 months.

U19 FCV won 3-1
U17 Richmond won 3-2 ( winning goal was scored in last 5 minutes
U16 Richmond won 2-1
U15 FCV won 4-1
U14 FCV won 2-0
U13 tie 2-2
Overall FCV won 3 by at least 2 goals
Richmond won by 1 goal each time
So FCV basically was roughly on par with third third or fourth best program in the midatlantic division of ECNL.
To bad we'll never know. FCV would boat race the teams in this area at every age group!
Do you think Richmond wasn’t trying new players and formations too? It is preseason for them as well. The hypocrisy is real at Fcv. You’re not the dominant club in the area anymore. You aren’t 1 of 2 ecnl/da clubs in the area anymore. Sorry. #thefutureisfcv

Anonymous wrote:I'm not sure the scores prove anything. When FCV was in the ECNL, the older teams faced off with Richmond at about that same level. The 03s and 04s are historically strong teams for them. I was a bit surprised Richmond's 05s didn't perform better actually, which suggests if anything, Richmond is weakening.

When it was only ECNL FCV simply attracted the best players. It’s not like they were ever turning C team players into National team or big D1 players. They simply were gifted the opportunity to select from the top talent and then coach good enough to not screw it up.

Why would Richmond be weakening? Their player pool is the same and they have no local clubs to really compete against for players.
They aren't facing the same level of competition they used to, so their players may not be getting that same development.
Ummm, OK, and FCV is?
They have more opportunities. Richmond used to play Ohio, Maryland United Bethesda, NC Courage's A team (they now play their B team), Charlotte Soccer Academy. Instead they have Loudoun, VDA Wilmington Hammerhead, NC Fusion (which was always average), McLean (which has taken some losses at the younger ages between Arlington and Metro).
FCV plays Penn Fusion, Tophat, Cedar Stars (which at the younger ages has pulled some PDA players), FC Fury, Charlotte Soccer Academy, Ohio, and so forth. So yeah, they are getting better opportunities.
That explains why the Patriots can’t win Super Bowls because they play in a weak division that doesn’t make them better.....
I wouldnt compare youth soccer to professional football. Not only does development in each sport look different, adults and your are.
The point is the training makes more of a developmental difference than games do.
