Yeah, I'm on the side of people doing their damn jobs and not burdening other parties with their deficiencies in accountability.
What do you say when kids are failing school or running around acting like idiots bullying and beating people up? "These parents need to take more responsibility for their own kids." That's where the onus belongs, right?
What do you say when homeless people are panhandling outside your job and hanging around the Metro station? "These bums need to take more responsibility for their own lives." That's where the onus belongs, right?
Okay well county personnel and departments cannot investigate or assist in the investigation of someone's citizenship or immigration status unless required by a court order because the onus belongs on ICE.
The federal government needs to take more responsibility for its own departments.

They do commit the most rapes and seem to have lighter sentences than other rapists.

“Racial bias appears to lead jurors in trials of stranger rape to convict Black defendants more readily and to sentence them more harshly than White defendants.”

That's how the process works for everybody.
If a Martian came down from outer space and raped somebody that's how it'd work.
As far as a detainer keeping him in jail despite a judge issuing bond because his illegal immigrant status - THAT'S WHERE THE POLICIES OF FEDERAL AND COUNTY COLLIDE.
The Promoting Community Trust Executive Order states that, "Immigration detainers, that are not accompanied by judicial warrants, are civil detainers for which the federal government bears sole responsibility."
So it's ICE's job to get a warrant so they can put an illegal in federal detention pending trial or pending deportation or whatever. Montgomery County basically says, "Hey...we're not clogging up our jails with illegals doing the federal government's work for them. If the feds want these people they're going to have to do their own damn work."
And in a sane world, MoCo would cooperate to address this issue, rather than cutting such people loose because, YOLO, I guess. My understanding (open to correction) is that not only will MoCo not hold those people, they also won’t give ICE notice that they are about to be let go so that ICE could take them into custody. The policy is intended to make deportation harder.
Yeah...MOCO isn't going to do the federal government's job for them. If the feds want to catch em they're gonna have to step their game up but they're not gonna have be blowing up MOCO officials phones day and night looking for tips and demanding follow ups, and they're not gonna be exploiting MOCO's departments distracting social workers and educators from their job to get a lead on suspect Latinos, and they're not gonna be sitting on their ass doing nothing just waiting for MOCO officials to do their work for them.
ICE better stop whining and get to work ain't no handouts.

No kidding, all these male college students raping. When is someone going to force police to actually do something?
If there were 5 rapes reported in ONE college town in one week, I would hope some politicians or County/City officials would come forward and express concern. Maybe discuss what they could do to ameliorate the situation? Wouldn’t you?
Five different alleged rapists in one week. Do you not see this as a problem?
There were 500 rapes in MoCo last year... that is 10 a week.
Do you not see this as a problem?
Sure. One that can be solved in part by deporting criminals before they get an opportunity to rape women and children.
So you only want to find the rapists who aren’t documented? Guess the vast majority will get a free pass. Not surprising given the Brett K supporters.
It’s amazing how “deport illegal immigrant criminals” has become a controversial proposition. In a sane world, it would be viewed as a sensible first step, reducing risk and allowing the police to focus on other criminals.
Right?
On what planet has this become controversial? Both parties should be behind this completely and totally. Most citizens should be behind this completely and totally.
I am truly trying to understand where the support is coming for politicians who do NOT support deporting illegal immigrant criminals. Where is the money coming from that continues to support such insane policy? The wealthy in MoCo must really, really be benefiting from allowing illegal immigrant criminals to flourish in the county. Not sure what other sane reason there is for this nonsense.
Agree 100%. It's only controversial to crazy leftists and socialists who want to import votes for their cause (if not allowing illegals to vote outright, counting on the kids they'll have who will end up becoming citizens because of birthright citizenship).
This bs needs to stop.
Crazy leftist socialist here! I am fine with deporting undocumented people who commit violent crimes. I was also fine with that approach under the Obama administration. What I don't like is the demonizing of all undocumented immigrants, or all immigrants. What I don't like is using the idea of "violent illegal criminals" to jump to bs statements like "half of all MCPS students are illegals." And I REALLY don't like faux outrage over (<10% of) rapes just to further this anti-immigrant hysteria. THAT'S the bs that needs to stop.
Written by the person who lives in a cluster that is still majority White. Where do your kids go to school?
In many neighborhoods, the schools really have come to the point where the majority of students ARE from illegal immigrant families.
Step out of your Potomac/Chevy Chase bubble and you'll see that not everyone has the luxury of wealth and privilege that you do.
Also, I am incredibly doubtful that only less than 10% of rapes in MoCo are committed by illegal immigrants. That is nonsense.
