Arizona, Colorado and Maine are all listed as tossup races for the Republicans to defend. Susan Collins is in deep trouble.

Her constituents are displeased and her approval numbers at home are her worst ever. Her constituents are not fools pp.

She is a decent woman at heart. However she badly miscalculated on the BK thing. Many people believe the victim, and BK in his speech behaved terribly, and not at all like a SCJ nominee. It's not that we forget all the good she's done as a moderate Republican, but that was really a cringeworthy mistake on her part, probably in part because she's an older woman, and lived in times when wealthy white men did this with impunity. She forgot that things are different now, and that men are held to more rigorous standards of behavior - thank God!

I don’t think you understand that just as many people support her decision and view her as having more integrity in her little finger than most of the Democratic senators who created the Kavanaugh circus. I cringe every time I think back to that hearing, and not because of Kavanaugh’s understandably human behavior, but because of the disgusting and surreal grilling of his high school life (30+ years ago). She was one of the only senators to speak up for common sense and decency and not jump on the witch-hunt bandwagon. Whether she wins or loses her next election, I will always admire her for having a backbone and doing what was right.

In Maine, this decision did not help her. Regardless of your personal opinions on her choice.

whatever we think of whether I LOVE BEER had a good confirmation hearing or not, or who the injured parties were - now it's up to collins to prove to her voters that she didn't fck them over and they should give her another chance.

Mid-Aug polling/analysis:

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/457739-cook-political-report-moves-susan-collins-senate-race-to-toss-up

The Cook Political Report shifted its forecast of the Maine Senate election from "lean Republican" to "toss-up" on Friday, signaling a tight reelection race for Sen. Susan Collins (R).

Collins won her last reelection bid in 2014 by more than 30 points but is expected to face a much tighter race this time around, with the leader of the state's House of Representatives, Sara Gideon (D), announcing she would challenge the four-term senator.

A press release Friday from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) claimed that the incumbent senator's support had cratered in the state following her confirmation vote for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last year, a controversial vote that Democrats argue pushed her outside the label of "moderate."

"This is the latest in a string of bad news for the vulnerable incumbent, who has continued to lose support among Mainers and seen her net approval drop by a 'stunning' amount since President Trump took office," the DSCC said in a press release, quoting a Morning Consult analysis.

I don't know, guys - seems like no matter how much a few enthusiastic DCUM posters say they think Collins did a good thing with the Kav vote, Mainers might not totally agree

But she could still turn it around! It's a toss up now, not yet a lean Dem prediction.

If she’s so bipartisan, why is conservative rag The Washington Examiner calling her a "reliable vote on conservative issues time and time again," including for Kavanaugh and the tax cut?

Her record is clearly bipartisan.

She squandered her reputation as a bipartisan with that appalling speech explaining why she was supporting Bart O'Kavanaugh - not just because it was clearly just a moment of falling into line, but also because it was a rebuke of her promise to Maine voters that she'd protect Roe. I hope it was worth it for her.

Appalling speech? That was a great speech.

What exactly in that speech was a rebuke of a promise to protect Roe?

+1.

That was the Speech of the Decade.

It was a good speech. It was just unrelated to reality.

No offense, but from a Donald supporter and his Hitlerian ego rallies, no one trusts your ability to judge what makes a “great speech.”

Voting to confirm Kavanaugh was a rebuke of the promise to protect Roe. And the speech was disgraceful in its disingenuousness.

Ask Maine voters what they thought of all that. If they are happy with it, then she'll get reelected. If not - then it matters not what you and I think of what she did.

Because that's what bipartisan means. Always votes with their party but is nice to the other guys socially.
