600k HHI but haven’t been at this income that long

Pension that in today’s dollars is 80k a year income

Going forward we are saving around $120k a year into 401ks and another 150k a year selling company stock when it vests and investing it.

We both stand to inherit a few million each. I’m not impressed with 529 fund performance and even though we should increase savings, not sold on it.

All in 5.3M. Mostly in stock market S&P and Total stock market index funds so has been fluctuating very widely

No pensions, no inheritance, or family support. Asian immigrants with grad school debt that we needed to pay off. Work in tech, HHI 800k but it was not always this high. We have done good, but have many friends who have done much much better.

$185,000 in 529s divided between 3 kids in elementary school.

We’re an early 40s couple. All in it’s about $1.6M combined:

$650K home equity
$750K retirement
$200K cash/brokerage/emergency fund

We will never be high earners and have no family help, but our mortgage is inexpensive for DC and we stopped at 1 child.

This honestly reflects the reality of most Americans who are currently employed and in their early 40s.

Lawyers/doctors/overpaid consultants should be seen as outliers.
