Washington spirit VA. Best players. Best coaches. Best facilities. Best jerseys. Best parents. Period.

VDA thought the same.

Spirit VA parents hanging their hat on a preseason game where they were flat dominated and grabbed a lucky goal.

The flaw in all this is that it supposes you can evaluate a clubs worth by assessing the performance of younger age groups in any one year. Its convenient to do so but there are too many variables for this to be a consistent indicator.

I doubt the best players left considering McLean 05 beats spirit va 05 8 out of 10 times. I figure spirit gets a lucky goal in twice in a 10 game series.

Case in point. The majority of current 05 McLean ECNL players were not developed in McLean. So to suggest that carpools and friendships from u9-12 soccer should dictate where to play at u13 is just ridiculous. It will be interesting to see if the same thing happens with the 06s. Mass exodus from Mclean to
other clubs and then backfilled with a new set of players. Arlington and Spirit are the primary benefactors of the defections from McLean. Loudoun players now have alternative (closer) choices to home (ECNL or FCV DA). Mclean will continue to struggle.

But the current 05 team is better then the team that was recruited by the Spirit parent-recruiter...no?

How do you define "better" when they play completely different teams? And as is always said on this board, clubs in any league/group can be better/worse than their records indicate -- particularly those who play in lots of close games. At the ECNL/DA level, coaches do use games to test out new formations, try a player in a new position, etc. Those changes are good for long term club performance but not for short term. So McLean (or Spirit) could be better than the record shows....

While the 05 Spirit have lost a number of games, their results are improving over time. Appears their development strategy is starting to take hold. And no, my kid doesn’t play for them nor am I a coach for them.

It’s too bad area’s ECNL, DA, and top EDP teams don’t play each other. I’d like to see an 05G DC metro round robin with Bethesda ECNL, Pipeline/Wash. Spirit-MD, Montgomery Rush Coyotes, McLean ECNL, VDA ECNL, FCV DA, and Wash. Spirit VA DA. Loudoun and BRYC in this age and gender are not very good, so they sit this one out. Two groups of 4. Play each other twice, home and away. Then take top 2 and play finals. Call it the Metro Cup. Play over course of fall and spring with finals in Early June. Only 3 extra games for most teams in fall and again in spring. Could also have a tier down bracket with top area teams from CCL, NPL, NCSL, ODSL, and ASL squaring off. Same format.

That would be great but I don't think it will happen.

Really the only chance these teams have of facing each others is tournaments or scrimmages.

At least half McLean 05 ECNL is new to McLean 05 ECNL this year.

Arguably the best players on last years 05 ECNL team left McLean. Who knows maybe some will come back?

Not sure why you provided this response if your kid doesnt play for the 05 team. How do you know of their improvements? You seem to be familiar with the team. Were you ever part of the 05 team?
