The interpretation is your's, PP. What the posters really seem to be saying is that lacrosse is just a game to those STA kids and their families, and not important in the grander scheme of life. Of course STA players aren't okay with losing games (no-one is) but they are more than okay with going to a top academic institution with an extraordinarily rigorous high school curriculum that prepares them to easily handle college, regardless of where they attend, and with a long history, prestige, and connections world-wide that they become a part of and will serve them throughout their life.

And it's the coaches fault.

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken feathers' I'm told.

STA has a choice, they can upgrade the size, speed and athleticism of the players (like the rest of the IAC) or they can reliably finish in the basement. Coaches can only do so much.

It's perfectly reasonable for them to decline to chase the other IAC squads. Sort of like Columbia in Ivy League football or what Northwestern did for decades in the Big Ten.

2. Include kids that will quit the college squad pretty quickly once they see how tough the competitions is, what the demands of the program are and how relatively unimportant the sport is on many college campuses.

3. Includes schools that really don't recruit that hard and where the kid is academically good enough so that the coach doesn't have to use one of his admission "Chits" to get him in.

. This is a stupid post. We don’t need to use the list of commits to gauge the strength of the IAC program. The win loss record speaks for itself. St. Albans parents says they don’t mind being crappy athletes on crappy teams because they are so academically strong. I call BS. I think the kids do care. And I think the parents should be mad if they pay 45k just so their kid can go to someplace like Dickenson and not play sports. What a waste. And I can assure you that the Prep boys going on to play college lax are no dummies. And they will contribute to their teams. You don’t know anything about college lax recruiting if you think the college coach gave them the spot for no reason. Notre Dame, UNC, Villanova, Navy, Dartmouth? Are you kidding? Either they are amazing lax players or they are very good lax players who bring the academic average of the team up. That’s how it works. So they can’t, as you suggest, be dumb, bad lacrosse players. That’s NOT how it works.

These kids know exactly what the demands are for their college sport. They have many peers, older brothers, cousins, family friends, who play at that level. You just don’t know any one who plays at that level because you are probably an STa parent who never played anything but tennis and has to justify why you send your kid to that school.

It’s a little shocking the mentality on here that doesn’t get that for many people high school sports are just that – high school sports and they’re fine to pursue other interest once they get to college.


Most lacrosse players are STA would LOVE to be recruited to play in college. Just ask them. It’s shocking to me that parents justify their kids sucking at lax and paying 45k for them to then pay 60k for mediocre liberal arts colleges. Kids who are serious lacrosse players (or football players or basketball players) don’t go to STA. They would rather have less academic stress, pay less tuition, and be on decent sports teams, all the while knowing they willend up at the same colleges as their STA peers.


Of course they would love to win every game. Who wouldn’t want to win every game? There are some very talented players on the STA team but in five years they will not be thinking about how their high school games at lacrosse went. They will have healthy relationships with their high school experiences and be moving on with with their lives. I suggest some of the adult posters on here do the same. STA, along with Sidwell and NCS, are in a league of their own academically and they are the only schools that are nationally known in this area as being academically prestigious schools. You can compare lists all day long but it won’t change the reputation that these schools have and the confidence and pride that comes with that.

*same colleges or better! See list from Prep lax! You won’t find similar college acceptances among the seniors on the lax team at STA. (Except for the Brown kid)

Perhaps, but that’s like 5% of the total students at STA (no idea the % of students in upper school).

And I’m guessing very few boarders play lacrosse.

STA is probably more expensive than any other local private school but I guess value is in the eye of the beholder.
