As an immigrant, what this man has done is nothing but admirable. He went to Yale for BA and JD and he could have made boat load of money but he rather devotes his life to public service.
My company CEO graduated with BA and JD from Harvard and his total compensation was 4.5M last year and has been 4M+ for the past five years.
With Kavanaugh's pedigree and connection from his days working in the white house, I am sure he will make at least 4M/year if he chooses to but yet you do not define success by wealth. He definitely gets my respect.
You also know that his wife was a personal assistant to former President Bush for many years. If she wanted to, she could have a very cushy job making at least 1M just from that connection but they chose not to. Even more respect to them both.
I really rather doubt that she could get a job paying her 1 mill or more. Sorry, but no.
Actually she could have. She could have easily fetched 500k+ and then bonus on K street. Happens all the time.

It is impossible with his $5000 a month mortgage and $2000 for tuition on top of his other household expenses- food, dining out, utilities, clothes, etc., that there is no way he could have paid off $200,000 in baseball ticket debt from one year to another??????????????????????
It’s possible on that salary, but not based on the track record of his savings/spending practices.

His parents were typical white-collar in CC as well. He likely had student loans that were paid off, so he didn't start saving for retirement until later (thus the $500K TSP). He has wealthy friends and a slight desire to keep up with the Joneses (see said house and the expensive baseball tickets). I think he's pretty typical.
Agree. I never realized how many people manage their finances this way until our oldest applied to college. Then, suddenly, people who had been spending lots of money they didn't really have had to tell their kids they couldn't afford to go to private colleges or even more expensive OOS publics unless they got merit money. Ugh.

Of those 300 million Americans, I think his finances will be better than 90% of them. Wish I could say the same for myself.

And the Federal courts retirement for both Supreme and appellate are still essentially defined-benefit along, I think.
