What is your GBRS for this year. My experience is that if you have disproportionately high test scores (cogat, WISC, etc.) but low GBRS, it shows imbalance overall. Write a parental letter, on appeal, indicating why your child's needs cannot be met in general education classroom. no emotional drama, just facts with evidence and specific anecdotes. We did not get in in second grade, we rested the case for two years, we got in this year with dramatically different approach plus we changed schools as well and the AART this time around provided much better support to us.
How do we change schools unless we actually move to a different school zone unless we use my sister,s address if she okay
I need to make this clear as I am the poster above. we did not changes schools because we had a relative in another pyramid. we physically moved due to jobs. We did not get into AAP in 2nd grade process. we then rested the case in 3rd grade while my child naturally improved and excelled with fantastic supportive academic environment in the new school, something the original school failed to do. We then applied this year and got in.

Maybe she doesn't prefer it, but has to, because hey it's a free education. Not everyone can afford private.
everyone has choices. there's always homeschooling, downsizing, moving. She chose FCPS.
Are you some kind of idiot? Never mind, yes it's obvious. You can only homeschool if you are not working and your husband makes a huge salary so that you can afford to stay home. My guess is she's a working mom. She lives in FCPS and has to send her child to public school. She isn't able to change that, so what if she complains? Are you told to move or do something drastic every time you complain?

This is illegal.
Some people used "illegal" means to exclude or to discriminate little innocent kids from attaining AAP base on their hidden agenda, bias, prejudices and racism !
So ....
In that case, by all means! Residency fraud FTW!!!

Thanks for the helpful checklist. I checked "no" on 1,2,3,5 and "yes" on 4 and 6. GBRS was abysmal because of no. 2 on your list. We had solid (98 percentile) scores. I was an active volunteer in my kid's class because I am an educator and wanted to see my kid and what he is doing. we did not get in. We rested the case for a year because we changed the schools and my kid naturally evolved academically. Got near perfect Math SOL in 3rd grade and 99 percentile in repeat school-based CoGAT. GBRS this time around was 15. Not because I kiss ass of my kid's teacher. I hardly go to the school as it is far from us and I have two kids in two different schools. I genuinely believe that the entire AAP packet must be balanced. Disproportionately high test scores and abysmal GBRS raises red flags. The second time around, the packet was balanced all around. We will defer for a year to start the AAP journey in middle school because we only have 1 year left of elementary and do not want to disrupt the academic life at this stage.
We did not do any of those things and BOTH children are in.
What worked for us:
- set high expectations for academic achievement
- check kids' homework nightly after work (yes - easier said than done)
- look at each item sent home in Friday folder
- praise good performance; go over wrong answers on past tests to make sure they know why they failed to get it right
- quiz them on the "study guides" teachers send home for them to study ahead of tests
- fully read and comprehend the emails teachers send (I am amazed at the number of parents who don't even bother)
The only other thing I can think of was the result of a short email we received from the school about the existence of AAP. The email had almost no information about AAP.
When we asked about AAP during a parent-teacher conference, the teacher suggested meeting with the AAP coordinator to learn what AAP was.
AAP coordinator explained that we should give her "work samples" and fill out forms/ a questionnaire she gave us.
Other than that, I believe the most important thing you can do is have a child who performs well on the standardized tests and excels academically.
