Make a fourth comprehensive HS at Kenmore or the VHC site. Figure out the ES/MS locations and traffic calming measures.

In the mean time, add a second 800-seat HB at the Ed Center. For any additional kids beyond that (500 if the 1300 is accurate), add some seats to Yorktown and Wakefield and adjust boundaries.

Of course some balancing should be done it too dump all farms kids there. Efforts should be made to replicate WL's current demographics. I wouldn't mind having another HB mod,e program- clearly there's demand, and with high school enrollment growing And the chances of getting into HB are proportionally even smaller. But I thought during the last go-round, when the decoision was made to move to Rosslyn, it was also decided that HB needs to be capped at around 700 (800?) kids (6th through 12th graders) or the model won't work. I don't know how we would get 1300 high school seats out of an HB unless something was changed.

Are you defining less-than by facilities or school demographics? What would keep you from "fighting tooth and nail"?

It is for now, but won't be for long. I think there's a plan to add seats there too through "internal modifications." I follow all this pretty closely and it's still hard for me to keep track though, so I could be wrong.

We are south of Columbia Pike, so I suspect solidly Wakefield under any circumstance. Viva SALA!


Yes, the plan is for Wakefield to have internal modifications to increase capacity by about 250 students. This same thing happened at WL the summer of 2015.

I thought the plan for Kenmore was to make it 1300 choice HS in the short term without all the facilities, but then when the MS could be relocated it grows in size and becomes a comprehensive (including all facilities) high school. If that is the case, I would be fine with my kids (currently zoned for Yorktown) going there. I wouldn't want my kids (nor do I think anyone else should) to go to a neighborhood HS that doesn't have comparable facilities to the other 3 HS.

Maybe by the time they're deciding on program and boundary, the school board could be replaced by people with spines?

I don't see how adding a choice program, meaning most students will need to be bused, is going to have the support of a neighborhood that keeps pointing out that there is traffic on Carlyn Springs Road.

Anyway, the SB is going to do what NVD wants, so that means the Ed Center.
