+1 Also this new group of coaches is still pretty new. They need more encouragement to continue to make things better.

They certainly do need encouragement - I wouldn't come near this club if I were a soccer coach and saw all these crazy comments. People seem to forget it is about the kids not their own egos and bs.

The people that need to remember it is about the kids are 90% of awful youth soccer coaches (from F to A licenses) that are in it for THEIR egos and to fill their pockets with money. Youth soccer is a huge money-sucking scam with very few coaches that are worth a damn and that covers every club large and small. Yes, there are crazy parents but, by far, the largest problem are the clubs, their executives and the coaches.

I am at a different club and I hate all these mother fuckers.

The coaches are goddamn stupid. The parents are toxic,,,attacking refs. The higher the player is assigned (not ability based, mind you) is directly proportional to the parents' sheer assholeness and suck-Assess. Our club has made teams for next year even though the brain dead head coach hasn't seen 25 out of 40 kids play in 2 years.

Thank god we are moving to Germany next year. #ustravelsoccersucks

I'm a bystander, but I don't agree that the posts here have generally been pathetic or disgusting, though they may be embarrassing to some. Through many years of reading about the struggles at VYS, I have been struck by how deeply so many seem to care about the club, and how much they want to see it move in one direction or another. That's not common in my lengthy experience of youth soccer. I think most of us show up at the local club and hope for the best, without having any idea who is in charge or what their goals or values may be. If it works our for our kids, great; if not, we might complain about it to our friends but we don't feel inspired to try to change it.

It is to VYS's credit that somewhere along the way they created something that people feel this invested in, even if, as you say, complaining about it on an anonymous board is not as useful as taking direct action to improve the situation. But if anyone does want to step up and try to fix the current problems with the club? The inside information they've gotten here will help them know enough of the context that they can ask educated questions and try to come up with a solution. I hope someone takes up your challenge.

I wanted to make one other point with respect to the bolded comment above: there is no reason to think that it's impossible for some of our children to play in the World Cup. Boys and girls from our area have grown up to do just that, at both the youth and full national team level, and several are on a path to do so in the future. Still more will go on to be part of the youth national pool, and huge numbers will play D1 soccer with or without scholarships. This area has a long tradition of producing top soccer players. Whether VYS wants to be part of the process of producing the very best players, as opposed to being a club that focuses on programs to make sure local kids have a great recreational experience is a big question that seems to be at the root of many of the angry comments. Truly, this whole situation would make for a good documentary on grassroots soccer in the US.

Well I hope that is true for the club. We could not continue to wait for a turn around. We got out before the structure change in fees. However, when we heard of the increase in fees, we had no idea the winter was now separate. It was also prior to the coach debagle. Things may not have been perfect a year ago but they were significantly better. It made us nervous when abrupt changes were made and things became questionable with transparency. We are happy at our new club. Is it perfect? No. Every youth sports clubs are going to have politics. parents that believe that their ideas about what is best for their child are actually best for everyone. When that happens, and the parents are very strong personalities, the likelihood of something like what is happening in VYS is very lossible. We saw the writing on the wall. But I sincerely hope that VYS can find its way. It has potential to be a great club again...
Long story short, the past may not have been as great as I remember, but it certainly was a pretty good experience. Better than the reports here sound to be there today.

Please do not mention Super Y as a great and special thing. Every club has it now. It is a money making ploy for clubs and coaches. Plus with the girls acadamies in 2017, Spirit will not look at us, especially when people are leaving the club in such numbers. Sad but true! Good try VYS.
