Bermuda - BOR. ING. The food was not good.
South Beach Miami - For all the reasons mentioned by previous posters.
South of the Border, SC - WTF? All that build up for hundreds of miles for a dusty, ghost town, tourist trap?! I have never been more disappointed about the reality of something after a crazy over the top build up in my entire life. That was about 25 years ago though, so maybe it's different now
It's worst now...it reminded me of a sense in a movie just before a drug fueled shootout.

Thanks for this and the thoughts about St Lucia. I've only been to the Caribbean once and we're starting to think about a trip there for our 10th anniversary.
Leaning towards PR. Easy to get to, easy to explore, lots of lodging options.
We love Grand Cayman. Have been twice. Gorgeous. Easy. Clean.
Agree with that, but also expensive and sterile.

Second time - one week in August 2 years later - I was so disappointed. It was nothing like I rembered. Super hot, over crowded, huge lines, a huge hassle to get a cab, to get a table in a restaurant, etc - it was like they were doing us a favor by seating is.
I will never again go during the summer months....
Rome was ok, but not as nice as I imagined. Same as Florencr. But we have relatives in both places and they made the trip wonderful. The small cities in Tuscany, around Florence were great.
I will never return to Venice...

I agree with so many of these. San Antonio was boring, and my then-bf and I both got food poisoning. New Orleans (went a few times pre-Katrina) - I just hated it and didn't get the appeal at all. South Beach - trashy. San Fran - overrated. LA - no thank you. Hilton Head - zzzz.
Also went to Taipei - snore. Edinburgh - so-so.
MORE amazing than expected: Zion National Park, UT; Oxford, England and environs; Seoul; Charleston, SC; Tokyo.
I'm a Paris fan. I adore Hong Kong.
Generally I guess I expect more from places I've built up as tropical paradises, and less from cities, and am duly disappointed/excited when I turn out to be wrong!

Just nothing to recommend it. Blah beach, drab houses.
I agree. What is the appeal?
+2
Never understood it.

What a dump!
Oh my yes - and horribly boring. Please, everyone, stay away!
I see you're trying to be clever (or something), but no need. I would never go back. Wretched place is overpriced with nothing to really recommend it. If you've travelled a lot, this isn't for you. If you haven't, then...well, I'm sure it's lovely. (cough, cough)
Hmm. Well, I'm multi-lingual and have traveled extensively, and I like Corolla quite a bit. It feels upscale, comfortable and safe, and the beaches are beautiful. But it's not a place to go if you only get off on going to exotic places. You could spend six hours in the car and then run into your next-door neighbors the first day, and that spoils it for people who want to brag about having gone to some place others have never heard of.

But we were young backpackers and knew nobody there.
That's funny, because I went to Bangkok as a business traveler and kept thinking how much more I'd have enjoyed it had I been a young backpacker!
I've been to Bangkok twice and have enjoyed the gritty feel and energy. Lots of noise and traffic buzzing around. Just so unlike here which is quiet and tame in comparison.
