Perhaps, but I've heard of someone named "Attica." His father, or someone who was believed to be his father, was on an extended stay there at the time. Attica is not so pretentious!

Is that where little Attica was conceived?

A friend of mine who married into an old money country club family in another part of va did the normal first+pretentious middle ---> call kid pretentious middle name route. All her friends there have horribly pretentious names and nicknames. It probably goes along with the prentioud southern naming pattern, but really...barf.

Maybe it bugs me because this woman always tries to portray the perfect life. Sets up vignettes on her birthday of a Tiffany bag, perfect dinner and a glass of champagne. Took going home from the hospital pictures of her in a dress, heals, large costume jewelry and full hair and makeup. So this tied together with all of the other pretentious crap really rubs me the wrong way. If I see it one more time I'm going to scream.

Almost snorted my coffee--thanks, PP!

Crazy thing is the Collins Bolivia poster is so freaking close!!

There was a cw show a couple years ago about a girl who finds her birth parents at 15 or something and winds up living with them. The girl's name was lux. I liked it. Not sure many could pull it off though.

I like Lavinia. And if people can be named Luz (which they can be, and are), why not Lux?

I would venture to say Luz is a dud. Lux is worse - sounds like trying to name your kid "Gourmet" or "Designer".

I would venture to say you don't know anyone Hispanic or Latino (unless they clean your house and you don't bother speaking to them). Luz is a common Spanish name. It's not a dud.

This takes the cake. I'm assuming you're not a troll.

Along the same lines, I went to college with a Ladye Rachel.

Did you call her by her full name or just Rachel?

I really, REALLY want the blank after "sir" to be "Mixalot". In which case it's not pretentious, just awesome.

Can we all agree that those who hashtag their kid's name are, by definition, pretentious?

I have a few aquaintances who do this. Annoying as hell.

Rollins Virginia?

I agree with on the annoying parent thing influencing your perception of the kid's name.

Keanu, Zaire, and Major.

Their middle names are even better.
