PP that has mentioned twice on this thread (although there have been more) about the unfair comparisons when people say Sela hasn't proven itself when MV was accepted into DCI after being open for months. Again, we are a private school family and are closely watching the development of DCI with high hopes especially since we live nearby. I have been accused twice of being a Sela booster. It is irritating. What the heck do you want me to do, post a link to our tuition bill? We are a Spanish speaking family. Just because someone has a different opinion doesn't make them a "booster".

I reread this thread, and there is exactly one Sela parent who has posted here. Everyone else is a parent from a feeder school. And just like we should call people out when they use the "g" word about certain schools or make (outright or implied) racist statements about AA students or what have you, I'm gonna call out all of this anti-Sela BS and you can call me a booster or a troll, but I am just a person who is against bullying (and also v. happy that my children are already at YY where we know a thing or two about DCUM bullying).

No, actually I am NOT making that assumption. I am talking about anyone and everyone who comes on DCI threads saying "What a great match Sela will be/would be, this will really fit". I don't know if they are Sela parents, affiliated with the administration, or just interested parties such as yourself. But what I do know (because it's here in writing for everyone to see) is that there are people who do this every single time DCI is discussed. THOSE are the people I'm talking about. So, take your own advice, stop making assumptions about who I think this is. Because you know what happens when you assume...

Re: those Sela boosters who come on every DCI thread, I want to be clear re: my post anyway, that they are totally welcome to that opinion. Seriously, that is what DCUM is for, expressing opinions. But it is totally disingenous to then get sad-faced or cry "CODE!" every timesaying that it predictably opens a conversation about whether Hebrew makes sense as a language for DCI. It doesn't matter if most people actually involved with DCI think every language is a good language - this conversation is happening here, on DCUM, and there are apparently a lot of posters who think it would be a great fit, and a lot who think it is hardly a priority language, and lots (like me) who don't care but would like to be able to read a DCI thread without reading this discussion every time. Yes, I just added again to that discussion, but this is the first one of these threads where I have said anything about this so since everyone else is weighing in, me too. This will be it for me on this topic, but I leave with a sincere hope that Sela thinks about how it is represented in these conversations. For every parent that expresses an opinion in any direction on this, there are many who say nothing but have lasting impressions. For better or worse, and I'm thinking for many it's worse.

I'm a YY parent, and I'm among those who have posted that Sela sounds like it would be a good fit for the DCI. Instead of bashing Sela, go ahead and bash me, I really could not care less.

I'm happy to hear that our administration has been working with Sela, and that the two schools are apparently on friendly terms.

To the Sela parents, I'm sorry to say you need some thick skin to read DCUM. There are some folks out there whose anxiety and/or animosity towards your school is almost a religious fervor. Some people are threatened by anything new, try to ignore them, they're not worth it. You're going to build a great school.

Got a better suggestion. Skip over posts that include the word "Sela". Much easier. All of these book length posts expressing annoyance at Sela-boosterism just feeds the "annoyance at Sela-boosterism" discussion, further clogging up the discussion.

I also feel this Sela trashing is code. I am an incoming Sela parent and I attended the same open house at the Baptist church. At no time did they mention DCI other than when asked whether the school would expand to MS-HS, at which point the Director said they want to expand, and that they would explore all options...including a second campus, pairing up with other schools, applying to be part of DCI, etc. That was it, and it was a LONG night. In some ways, I have to say thank you to all of the DCUM bigots and bullies, because if it weren't for the trash talk, I never would have heard about Sela. What we found when we went to the open house where a lot of multi-racial families like ours and a wam administration, hopefully like YY with its negative DCUM nellies, they will just rise above.

I think what rubs a lot of people the wrong way is:

1. It's pretty clear from this thread at least that the people posting about Sela(h) sic are parents at other schools, and not Sela(h) parents, and all they did was express their wish that Sela be part of DCI - and then a lot of people emptied out their livers on them (is it anti-semitic code as a PP suggested, as an AA mom, it certainly feels like irrational prejudice -which I am used to on DCUM), but I do think this bothers many many people, and this causes people to respond when someone bashes Sela(h);
2. There is no evidence that Sela(h) mentions its inclusion in DCI when recruiting students - I have a coworker who is sending her daughter. She asked them at their information session about MS and they said they were focused on opening, and that their charter runs up to 5th grade currently, but that they intended to go up to MS, either as a stand-alone school, as part of DCI, or as part of a partnership of charter MS that doesn't exist yet - they did not say they were part of DCI and it's not on their website - I checked.
3. the denigration that anyone who sends anything not bilious about Sela(h) is a booster or a troll.

You are totally wrong about Sela not mentioning DCI. There are 2 parents at my current PS going to Sela in the Fall and 2 more in my neighborhood who checked Sela out but are choosing not to go. All four of them heard about DCI for the first time at Sela presentations (well, 3 and one heard at the Charter Expo). How are 4 unrelated arenas hearing about DCI from Sela if Sela isn't talking about them.

There is indeed plenty of code on DCUM. There are also plenty of people with vested interests in certain outcomes. It's foolish to act as if everyone is only one or the other, there can be some who don't like Sela for prejudicial reasons, and some (like those totally over the Yu Ying mentions everywhere) who wish Sela well but really wish its advocates would hush up about DCI already. Both are actually possible, shock and awe!

Because only wackos can't understand that MV has already been open and working well for at least 2 years, while Sela hasn't opened its doors yet. As we have discussed in dozens of threads already, where Sela boosters appear out of nowhere, in topics unrelated to Sela, to boost their case with exaggerated if not outright false claims.

I do hope the school succeeds, and am mystified about their behavior in this forum.

Wrong. The previous post is correct. MV was months old when they were discussing joining DCI. It's not even two years old now. What gives? Why the animosity? How was MV accepted so graciously and any other new or potential language charters (Sela or any others that open soon) have to prove their record?
