What constitutes a strong AAP application really depends on the base school you are applying from. If it's a stronger school, getting in out of the usual cycle can be really hard.
It's not very strong school, their Performance Level based on the recent report is on track %84

AAP is nice to have but it isn't a gifted program, it really doesn't meet the needs of the kids who are in the 99th percentile and curious.
So what, in your opinion, should the parents of those 99ers do? Home school? Private school? AAP + a lot of tutoring?
The needs of the super gifted are not and have never been met in a group education setting. This has always been a made-to-measure endeavor.

They do fine in public schools or private schools that allow for some acceleration. The kids we know who are taking Calculus in 8th grade, we are at Carson so we know a few, are in AAP classes and seem to be doing well in those classes, they don't seem to be demanding acceleration in those areas. AP/IB/DE classes will serve the vast majority of the kids perfectly fine.

Navy is very tough. My kid had very high test scores and was in pool and still didn’t get in until 2 years later. Also it’s a center school, which means no principal placement. Center schools are disadvantage that way.
That’s incorrect. Center schools do have principal placements. We are in a center school and I know of a few kids who have bee placed in the AAP class by the principal.
