Well I am boycotting the World Cup. Even though my son really wants to go. We can’t afford the tickets. It’s crazy how expensive they are.

Why would tourists travel to the USA knowing they are subject to immediate harassment and detention based on their social media profiles. Nope. I’m taking bets that the 250th anniversary events will also be a bust. Deranged Donnie touched both events, and everyone knows that ETTD.

World Cups gave been held in many locations that were globally unpopular due to poor leadership at the time but yet the love of sport and nationality prevails in modern times. Same could be said for the Olympics. Remember Sochi? Russian hotels were booked.

The other hosts (Russia, Qatar) went out of their way to make visitors feel welcome. Fans did not feel like their personal safety was at risk. As a foreigner who has had to deal with CBP in the Trump era, I do not feel safe crossing the border into the US.

No, there have not been previous hosts who were so unpopular as to have a financially unsuccessful tournament. Qatar last time was hot has heck and they managed to pull it off, despite the pre-event controversies.

The man who lost money running a casino is unsurprisingly causing the US to lose money hosting a global event like the World Cup. The Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028 will be even worse.

I remember Sochi. What I do not remember is Putin threatening potential travelers with their state police and the confiscation and search of their telephones and laptops for the travelers' possible jailing. What I don't recall is Putin threatening the athletes to think twice before coming to the US and trying to get the Olympic Committee to ban their participation, as Trump has threatened Iranian athletes. And I would bet in the polymarket that you, too, do not remember such threats.

Why would anyone attend that match. ICE will be rounding up anyone who attends and most likely killing them in the street.

Costco has been trying to sell discounted FIFA tickets. Good luck with that.
