Wootton parent here and I agree completely. I have been saying it ever since the county wide boundary study drama before COVID. It does not make sense to have both of those schools, we just don't have the students. I understand we did not have a choice but to build Crown or risk the land so the decision to move Wootton while also adding in more students is perfect. Wootton can sit or get demolished until they decide we have the students to justify the expense. Similar situation with Northwood and even Woodward decades ago when they opened Walter Johnson.

As a Wootton parent I know it is not what my peers want to hear but it is what makes the most sense.


As a Wootton parent, what would you say is the consensus amongst the school community? Which option is everyone voting for? I am a future Damascus parent trying to figure out how this could impact our situation

Brown Station ES - QO and Crown or Crown only

Pull in Dufief and Travilah to QO and move Fields Rd and part of Brown Station ES out to Crown

This is how people shop for houses. They filter by the top schools, then they scroll down and look at the proximity to the schools. Take Urbana for example there is a premium for being less than a mile from the school, but there are plenty of fabulous houses as long as you are willing to drive three miles.

So, what happens next people who would have payed 1.5 million for house next to Wooton start looking at other districts. Then house prices start going down, no one wants a run-down house far from the school. Then it's no longer economically segregated. Here they come, the FARMS kids.

So yeah, the good reputation won't last for long.




What will hurt more is if Wootton is forced into Region 5.

I don't think it will affect the housing prices negatively. In fact, if Crown becomes Wootton along with other feeders from Gaithersburg and QO, the houses in those feeder areas will go up in prices, the new developments will be higher priced. Wootton has got a name, and moving Wootton will benefit a lot of neighborhoods making their prices go up.

Option H, along with redistricting feeder schools to all these high schools in Wootton's vicinity is the best option IMO. MCPS has a chance to diversify the schools and I hope they do it.
