+1. The odds aren’t great, but it’s hard to pre-process the likely rejection so just waiting on next Wednesday to get here

I’m handling child number three completely differently. Not building up the process of finding a dream school. We will be very much downplaying the importance of finding some elusive perfect fit for her. Just find a couple options that are doable for her where she’ll be happy and not reach for some brass ring.

This is the way. We made a point of hyping target schools not reaches, and pointing out pros and cons of all of them. Does a kid zero favors to promote the idea of a dream school (which is silly anyway).

You can do this and also utilize ED, assuming you do have a preference. Having a preference is not the same as a “dream school.” DD applied ED to UVA. Already has an admit to Delaware and Pitt. Also applied to VT and W&M. If she gets into UVA great, but if not she will have some great other choices.

Same. My DC is convinced they’re getting in, despite all my efforts to balance that confidence with being prepared for the possibility of a different outcome. No dice. Won’t budge. I’m almost sick with worry.

Yes, same here. And we were doing so well over the past year talking up the targets/likelies (and genuinely feel great about them!). But the ED approach hijacked all that thinking and DD is locked onto her ED now and fully expecting confetti.

I flipped the statistics for my kid—90-95% of applicants do not get accepted, so prepare yourself.

Good grief. You have the patience of a toddler. ED decisions come out super early as it is. I'm glad I don't live at your house. Are you the type who puts up Christmas decorations weeks before Thanksgiving?

Why do we have so many Karens in our society? This board is for parents to vent. Weirdo.

Use of the term “Karen” is very racist!

People usually think of their HOA president as a Karen. I don't think it refers to race, or sex, or age. It could be a 22 year old young URM male. Karen is entitled, always tries to control situations that don't involve them. Rude as fuxx.

+1

It’s not racist.

I thought the PP saying it was racist was making a joke. Only in the Trump era is anything that may even suggest criticism of white people is "racist." Which cracks me up because racism isn't really racism if it is directed towards are race that holds majority power. It's just bias. But maga wants to make "racism against whites" a thing and redefine racism. So, I thought PP was just making a Trumplandia joke.

NP.

Yes, agree. Thank you.

It's rather shocking how many on DCUM claim to have earned undergraduate or graduate degrees, yet they fail to understand BIPOC peoples are incapable of being racist, by definition.

You have got to be kidding me. Oh my.

Racism has nothing to do with who holds majority power. Now you are just making stuff up. So being racist is fine as long as the race is white? WTF

That's how racism came to be to be an ism it has to be at an institutional level. Otherwise, it's just bias or prejudice. This idea that it can go both ways is a new thing. Look at history. There has bever been "racism against whites" in this country. SMH
