I like his pointed "in our culture we don't send our parents to the nursing home." NO, we build three story accommodations for them with a rabbit Warren of tiny bedrooms, multiple kitchens and baths for them to "play with their grandkids" in. The nerve.

Anybody see the resemblance? He doesn't think anything of this because this sort of thing is totally normal in "his culture".

I'm from a native, ethnic culture, been here over 40 years. This man is a slimeball. He is using his "culture" as some sort of shield to justify all of this. Of course he is not sending his parents to the nursing home - the home belongs to them, not him and he hopes to get it after they pass. This is the way it works. I agree with others here that everyone is in cahoots - the parents and kids. They want to build an apt building and run a commercial operation - albiet all cash with zero taxes paid. GTFO

He knows that this is Generic Whitey's Achilles heel -- hypersensitivity to other cultures combined with insecurity about their own perceived lack of culture. He will get away with it just because of this.

His timing is bad though. He would for sure get away with it in 2021-2022. Now people are recognizing that just knee jerk deference to any non-white person out of white guilt is not actually good policy, and you seem more people, including progressive white people, thinking more critically.

These people are con artists, it has nothing to do with their race and everything to do with their character. The neighborhood is racially diverse and people of all races oppose this idiotic monstrosity that is CLEARLY going to be used as an illegal apartment building or AirBnB. I know some racists have wandered into this thread and the conversation to express anti-Asian sentiment -- it's unfortunate such people exist and will seize on opportunities like this. But it doesn't mean people are just going to roll over and accept this. I think people are mobilizing. If they can't get the construction torn down, I think the building will be watched like a hawk for other violations and reported for everything else. Everyone in the neighborhood has a vested interest in making this go away.

Anonymous wrote:Yeah, aging parents are not living in this. No way. Those are apartments. JFC. This just gets worse and worse.

I live in this neighborhood and we really love it here. It’s a throw back in a great way. Except for the racism of the original builders (Leavitt)-we are all very proud of how diverse our neighborhood and schools are.

The neighbor has reached out to the county pretty much daily and is working on legal options.

We have seen other odd additions/renos happen, but this one is so completely ridiculous and we cannot believe it is legal under current zoning. It is twice the size of the original house, a 4 br/2 ba cape cod with 1500 sf (a previous addition had already been done)

Levitt was not racist. At that time period people liked to live with similar people, might suprise folks but in Roosevelt Long Island not far from Levittown Long Island Levitt builder an equally nice community for returning black soldiers.
Astoria was Greek, Woodside Irish, Williamsburg Orthodox, Great Neck Regular Jewish, Hicksville Indian, Garden City Wasp, Manhasset Rich Catholic, as back in 1950s to 1970s people self segregated and just how it was

I saw the guy in TV here is my question.

Why is it Legal for his parents to live with him?

On Long Island a single family neighborhood is single family. You need a permit to move a patent in, requires a building inspector, a permit, reviewed annually and neighbors can voice concern.

My old town was incorporated and strictly zoned we did not allow it at all. single family is single family.

The root of issue is multigenerational housing, block that and two stories should be max.

I laughed when he said “my culture” buddy your culture is now America not Asia.

Someone in the neighborhood should make a GoFundMe for the neighbor with the one story house to pay for a lawyer to fight the variance. Or even a GoFundMe for the neighborhood to fight the variance.

It’s an apartment building. They are monetizing it.

Anonymous wrote:People need to pay attention to the 2026 legislative session in VA. This type of eyesore will become common in single family neighborhoods if the the YIMBYs convince the legislators to preempt local control over zoning. this is exactly what will be coming to Alexandria and Arlington due to the zoning changes. Maybe everywhere in Virginia if the VA legislature preempts local control zoning. Call your state senate reps and state delegates this year to voice your opposition to bills that allow this monstrosity by-right. Oppose anything that eliminates single family zoning, parking minimums, and definitely call to voice opposition to bills that allow churches to ignore local zoning rules. This is already legal everywhere in California and they want to force this on your quaint suburban community as well.

MoCo pay attention!

Don’t worry, that’s coming if this allowed to stay.

The emphasis on “our”.

The report said his parents already lived with him. He said he’s building an office, a playroom and more bedrooms.

In the long interview, what did he say he was building? This is the first time I heard of a playroom and office.

These are either going to be long term apartment rentals or short term air bnb kind of rentals. GMAFB that aging parents are going to walk all those stairs.

I think this addition is ridiculous. I am glad to see so many of you, even the Republican member of the board of supervisors, support limitations on by right development. I also think most of the infill development is ridiculous. So many tear downs of reasonable size homes replaced by massive homes with almost no yards. I hope the county restricts those, too. The unfettered rights of property owners in Virginia are ridiculous.
