Texas derangement continues.

Texas GOP is unlawfully detaining state house members, requiring they sign "permission slips" and have a police escort with them if they leave the state house chambers. This is insane.

Republicans have unveiled a new congressional map in Texas that would allow the party to pick up as many as five additional congressional seats, an aggressive maneuver that has already met decisive outcry from Democrats and comes as the GOP tries to stave off losses in next year’s midterm elections.

Republicans already hold 25 of Texas’s 38 congressional seats. But at the urging of Donald Trump, Texas’s governor, Greg Abbott, called a special session this month to redraw the state’s congressional districts. After contentious hearings across the state, Republicans unveiled their proposed map on Wednesday.

Had the map been in place for the 2024 election, Trump would have carried 30 of the districts, while Kamala Harris would have carried just eight, according to data from Dave’s Redistricting App, an online tool that allows for analysis of voting districts.

The map unveiled on Wednesday represents the most aggressive effort for Republicans. While analysts said Republicans could target three Democratic seats easily, trying to claim more risked spreading GOP voters too thin.

Good. This is what they SHOULD be doing. Taking pages from the democrat party playbook. It worked fine for dems in IL, MA and CA, so it should work fine for R’s in Texas.

I love how the right continuously cites three states (MD, IL, CA) without acknowledging the 20 states the GOP gerrymanders, including FL, OH, GA, WI, TX (already) and so on. Egregious. The good news is there are many more seats the Dems could gerrymander if the GOP really wants a tit for tat.

I would like to see a cohesive multistage strategy. I’d happily donate to an organization that could fund this all in the most efficient way possible.

Congress could tie highway funds to fair redistricting. It is amazing how republicans know they are so toxic they will lose without gerrymandering.

Agreed, but at least they are waiting until California files the paperwork and then will return to start fighting Texas gerrymandering legislation. Unlike the republicans, I guess that they feel some obligation to go back to earn their paychecks.
